A mysery percolating for almost fifty years

No "pew pew" sounds and no "zzzzzzoom!" sounds in the vacuum of space. A complaint of hard core sci-fi fans for all time.
I've got much more interesting scientific problems with sci-fi programs. They don't keep me awake at night. Too far below the 51st state question on my priorities list.

Why not? I've listened to the sounds of Saturn with my head phones. Maybe I'm daft, but I don't get it.
Saturn has radio emissions. Those radio waves are converted to sound by a human-built radio receiver so that you can listen to them. Radio waves travel through vacuum, sound does not.

You're not daft, but maybe should consider suing your public school system wherever you were raised.

You don't really think that's sound that's being transmitted across the vacuum of space do you?

Sounds is the propagation of vibrations though a medium (usually air). Space is not a medium; it cannot transmit sound.

No, I'm daft to be certain. Sometimes by choice, other times by the natural daftness present in me as an individual raised and educated by our public school systems, or maybe it's due to my personal style of ignorance. My acuity has never been that of a scientific nature. I'm better attuned to the arts and religion, although I have great respect for the scientific fields of study. I've simply applied myself to other disciplines. By the way, head phones are great and tv as well as the movies require similar signals to be processed through the speaker systems, so your point is relatively moot,

Umm, in my opinion.

Moot? You were the one saying you could hear the sounds of Saturn. The misconception did seem in need of mending.

Which is why you're here, right? To remedy ignorance and add some basic science knowledge to your cognitive toolkit? And I would suspect that even the most arty of artists benefit from discerning the difference between electromagnetic waves and sound waves.

No, there was no misconception ... Head phones work wonders in the sound department.

Yeah, sometimes ignorance is remedied to some extent but never to point if satisfaction, other times it's more fun to stir the stew. By the way, your comment about electromagnetic waves made me think about the heliosphere imagery created from electromagnetic waves with some added color to further illustrate it's form. It has the similarities of a larva with a hooked tail. NASA has always been great about producing stunning images. What are you here for? Your ignorance or mine? Should I call you teach or Doc, Doc?
