A forum for incessant bickering?

It has so been my experience on the forums that people bicker occasionally, banshee and mr. g, congratulations and me, that sort of thing. I don't know if a whole forum needs to be delegated to bickering, but it might make a difference, since people would be arguing about their petty differences in a concentrated environment rather than all over the place.

I know this is a wacky idea and I won't throw myself off a building if you say no, porfiry, but I guess I'd just like to hear your thoughts on this.

(Plus I think it'd be funny if I wound up being the moderator:cool: )

I do know that a whole thread goes bananas from the off-topic replies. I have to say that it is a shame that it has to go this way. I see a whole thread going nowhere because of the constantly, so called 'funny' replies. Not 1, no, 4 replies after another.

Then again, I hate bickering. It is not my kind of way. I really hate it and wish it could be over. Totally over. I've had enough of it. I am not the arguing type, just try to keep the thread on-topic.

In my eyes it is not necessarry to make a whole Forum, I won't go there. I've made my last reply to the person in question and I'm about to give the whole damn thing up.

No more replies, no more nothing. Over and done with...

POLLUX YOU'RE A GENIOUS!
You have totally read my mind! If only there could be that place to go where an insult wouldn't be so bad, a criticism would be taken lightly, and a joke would be taken with a grain of salt!
But what would we call it? The arguing forum, or the injustices forum, or the 'Let's be Friends' forum? Maybe just the 'Untitled Forum'.

But, just to let you know, If you really want to be the moderator of that forum (and we know you're dropping hints here, eh..) you're gonna have to fight for it with me. That means, yes, more bickering. So first we have the forum, then we bicker over who gets to be the moderator. Sounds like a deal.

Great!! A supporter!

I think "Incessant Bickering" is a good name. Care to argue?

Great Idea.

I don't think that it'd be completely effective though!

I somehow just can't see people leaving the forum they're browsing to try to keep bickering in one place.

Time, time, time, busy. busy, busy.
:)

Hey Pollux V...

If you want to moderate a Forum, then send a PM to Porfiry. Tell him what you want and how exatly. Should be nice if you could moderate a Forum. :)

If it should be a Forum for bickering remains a question, perhaps there is something else for you to moderate. I think you would be good as a moderator. go for it...;)

...a...forum...delegated to bickering,...might make a difference, since people would be arguing about their petty differences in a concentrated environment rather than all over the place.

Why not constrain all the touchy-feely, "I can't handle this", "I want to feel as good as I can about myself despite contrary evidence", posts to a single forum?

It would allow unabated differences of opinion between the self-confident to be debated in all the other fora.

;)

Well, mista I mean the real swearing and brutal arguments, take for instance something that banshee said to you a few days ago under parapsychology, she deleted your post or something and said (gasp) the 'f' word. Now, come, come, doesn't this seem better suited for somewhere else where you can vent your neverending expanse of...hmmm...egotystical personality with Banshee in a more unregulated atmosphere? I once tried to stop you and the other fellow sciforumers from duking it out but you said that it was unnecessary and continued to do so.

Bottom line: Mr. G I know you must think that folks like Banshee and Bebelina are hippies and you seem to have a real urge to anger one of them at least but wouldn't you rather specifically target them on a thread dedicated to them? This could solve problems or create new ones, but at least that wouldn't be happening all over the place.

;) Well, I don't take Banshee as one to bicker. She only does it if she has to. What happens in a regular forum when an argument gets in the way is that you can't ignore it- but if it's supposed to be in a seperate forum, you can. If Banshee or anyone else didn't want to have an argument, the'd just stay away from the argument forum.

We might, if we get this new arguing forum, a simple drop in bickering. That's not fun, but perhaps it would be better...I'm just a little unsure if it would even work.

Well, we have a free thoughts forum- could we just encourage people to go there with their problems? It might be a little redundant to put in a new forum.

She deleted several of my posts -- a couple of them with proper cause, no doubt. But I missed the 'f' word. Rats! :D

If you mean self-confidence gained through experiences in venues far more severly demanding of one's ability to perform than these fora, I guess I see where you're coming from. ;)

I know you must think that folks like Banshee and Bebelina are hippies...
I have no problem with Hippies. In fact, I still sport a full beard and a nearly belt-length pony tail myself. True, the tail keeps getting thinner but it's still there after 30 years. And the habitual distractions? Well, I've outgrown most of those. :D

...you seem to have a real urge to anger one of them...
I have an urge to confront weird thinking where I find it. When I find it outside the forum specifically set aside for no-evidence-required weird thinking, I will continue to have the urge to confront it with repeated requests for non-anecdotal proof.

...at least that wouldn't be happening all over the place.
Let it not happen in the weird-thinking forum. Outside it, how can chronic weird thinking go flacidly unchallenged? You, yourself, demonstrate a specific willingness to confront emphatic rational thinking but no similar willingness to confront emphatic irrational thinking. Why is that?

Congratulations,

See above. ;)
