just a bit curious... is this as popular in your town, or is it only popular here because its about detroit?
i wanted to go see it saturday night, but unfornately ever theatre even relatively close to here has been sold out till next weekend since opening night (friday). :(

has anyone seen it yet?
(if you have don't tell me anything about it!)

i heard today on the redio that they are having problems with people taking weapons into the theatre to go see the movie... morons..

...but anyway. if ya could.. tell me where you are from (although alot of you i already know) and weather or not it is packing in the people.

Yea its selling out here (North-west New Jersey)...why?...because all the girls I know keep telling me "he's sooooo cute" The guys go because they're dragged there to get some "action" from their girls, or they want to be cool and see how the streets really are :bugeye:

:D

*Coughs and notes that Eminem grew up in a fucking suburb*

Looks decent, though.

I heard Eminem is a pretty decent actor too, tho I'm not too fond of him.

it OVERSOLD in my area. People were sitting in the aisles (FIREHAZARD!)

It was pretty good. Better than i expected. Audience sang along to the tunes and rooted for him during spit "battles" etc. It was a good movie

Pack'in 'em in @ the Jersey Shore

Went last night and there was a line. Maximum amounts of hot teenies like I need even mention that. But the movie was pretty good even though it wasn't really about anything. It was a good depiction of hip hop culture and MCing. A little documentary style ya know? It was pretty damn funny too! Recomended. And a lot of people were talking this could be Oscar material but I don't know about all that. What, because Kim Bassinger was in it? She was good though. Ahhhhhh just go see it.

THIS WEEKEND Moviegoers lined up by the millions to see multi-platinum rapper Eminem make his feature film debut in Universal's urban drama 8 Mile which generated a monstrous $54.5M opening, according to estimates, surpassing all industry expectations and topping a robust box office frame. Directed by Curtis Hanson (L.A. Confidential), the R-rated film bowed in only 2,470 theaters and averaged a colossal $22,050 per venue. The opening performance was especially powerful considering its restrictive rating and its theater count which was relatively low by event film standards. In the end, 8 Mile delivered the second largest opening ever for an R pic behind MGM's Hannibal which bowed to $58M from a wider 3,230 theaters in February of last year...... ..

the rest...

i had figured it'd be a flop.. kindof a male version of mariah cary's "glitter".. lol.

Just saw it tonight. Not too bad. My biggest problem was that the FREAKIN' POPCORN WAS 5 FREAKING DOLLARS! Bastards. So I snuck in a lolipop.

Eminem claims that this is the only movie he's going to make...I hope it's not like DMX.

wak

not dissin on eminem or anything but yo he sold out big time
hes just another emcee that went all out fake brainwashed into doing corporate bull, even though he speaks his mind , it fully contridicts the true school of the hip hop culture, like the big misconseption of what hip hop is"RAP" isnt hip hop its just an element there for they shouldnt even call DMX,JAYZ,PDIDDY etc ...you know where im comming from.they shouldnt be able to call it hip hop because its just RAP.Hip Hop is a culture with many aspects you got your graff artist ,emcees, djs, bboys and yes there is hip hop knowledge the roots on how the culture originated through AFRICA BAMBATAA (zulunation)who used the hip hop culture to spread knowledge on the infinity lessons for the uplifting of humanity,DJ kool hurc he originated the djing aspect of hip hop etc.......
pretty much my point just because an individual raps doesnt really mean he or she is hip hop cause its just rap ,its just an element

RAP IS SOMETHING YOU DO,HIP HOP IS SOMETHING YOU LIVE

Juxtaposition, or something

I actually heard someone comment a couple weeks ago, after an advance screening, that 8 Mile is almost a remake of Flashdance.

But I went to see Bowling for Columbine last night. There was a massive line, but it turns out everyone was going to see 8 Mile.

But I think the movie will serve as an excellent indicator of how low our culture has sunk. I won't argue that people might find 8 Mile a good film. But the latest trailer I've seen reminds me of the old, terrible MTV "Chester" commercials. If I want to watch a white guy insult his black neighbors in an effort to present himself as cool, I'll ask someone to hit me in the head with a brick.

But I thought it was amazing that nobody in Bellevue, Washington felt like seeing a film like Bowling for Columbine. Hell, there were eight other people in the theatre besides us.

The only other note I'll give is that, in looking at the crowd gathered for 8 Mile, in an honest observation of the people in line, I have never seen so much natural beauty buried under so much bad makeup as I did among the flocks of high school girls in line. I have not been amid such a strong concentration of superficiality since junior prom in high school. I mean, I like sluts as much as the next guy--well, actually not, but you get the picture. But the line for 8 Mile made me wonder if I wasn't stuck in Attack of the Clones.

How was the rap war? I've heard all sorts of stuff like "lukewarm" and "why did they bother with this scene". So I'm curious if it's anything better than any other frat-level comedy that ends with a battle of the bands or a dance contest.

And, as we bought our tickets for Michael Moore's latest brilliant film, I found myself walking through the crowd, humming, "What a feeling! I have rhythm now ...."

thanx,
Tiassa

I want to see Bowling for Columbine SO badly...how was it tiassa? Did you see Rodger & Me? I would have to agree with the clones comment also.

If I hear one more person bitch and whine about how someone "sold out" I'm going on a stabbing rampage. Listen to "hooker with a penis."

8 Mile had a gay ending too.

Are you a member at the Awol or SciPhi boards? I can swear you are. Anyway I think 8mile did a good job of showing a different side of hip hop that the radio or MTV doesn't show. The rwness and cleverness of competition. A lady at my office saw it and was so impressed by the battles and how they do that. She would never know that aside from seeing the movie........I'm very pleased about that.

Bowling for Columbine is a must-see. It's stunning. Breathtaking. Funny and sickening. Beyond that, the only spoiler I'll offer is in the very beginning of the film when Moore goes into a bank and opens an account to get the free gun they're giving away with new accounts. My eye isn't that great, but I think he walked out with a bolt-action 30-cal rifle. He did ask the important question: "Isn't it a little dangerous to be giving guns out in banks?" And from there he went to a barbershop where nobody thought it odd that he be loading his weapon as he sat in the chair.

And if that isn't tempting enough, I would have to simply spoil the whole thing. The bit with the militia is hilarious.

Okay, I'll shut up now and leave this topic to Eminem.

But Bowling for Columbine is the best thing going in American cinema right now.

thanx,
Tiassa

FEMINEM!?!?!?!!! WHAT THE FOKK????

I came up with that name a few years ago for a female "rap" group in my town!!!! ARGH!!!

*EDIT*

After looking at the site, it appears that they may have got the name first. Oh well. I hang my head in shameful defeat.

I don't recall ever discussing anything with you.

Hello.

At any rate, I wanted to ask about the quote by KRS-1. Does that mean that hip-hop is, for instance, getting all hopped up on something and then storming the stage and violently throwing another band out of their own concert?

Wasn't it about 11 years ago that KRS-1 blew all of the popularity and credibility he'd earned both on his own and the cross-market success of his association with REM for his assault of PM Dawn?

Is that part of the rap that you do or the hip-hop that you live?

thanx much,
Tiassa

me

congrats 2 detroit 4 repping so large with this movie.
it did verry well on the BO charts for 2002.

i dont kno how well it did down here in mia, but im sure its all the same

i finally downloaded it 2day 2 see wat all the hype was about

i definitly agree mister cartoon shady boy did a pretty good job as an actor
its times like these wen u jus wish som ppol would follow in marky mark's footsteps.
please stick 2 acting and giv up rap!

i also agree with most of the people here that seem 2 feel that the movie was bad.
despite the acting wich was pretty decent, this movie overall was rancid.
i couldnt even sit through the entire thing at once.
im contemplating weather or not i should spend my time and finish watching the rest b4 it gets deleted into oblivion.

if u wanna c a really good detroit movie,
Gridlocked was one of them.

its an independent type film film with starring pac, the guy from resovoir dogs, and the girl from mission impossible2 and lucy liu b4 she became popular.

she overdoses, and her 2 roomates decide they want 2 go into rehab, but they spend the entire movie waiting in long lines dealing with all the morons that work for the social welfare system.
very famliar if u ever dealt with them
its a system i grew up under so i totally relate.
after getting so much wrong information, rude customer service, and getting nowhere, one of the friends asks the other 2 stab him in order 2 get immediate treatment at the hospital

my review of the movie
britney murphy is a little hottie
