  • As one of the doctors said, my hip is probably going to have problems from now on anyway, so I just need to be careful. I've already got bad knees and wrists from hockey, so this just kind of adds to the growing list. My friend just left China today and we'd planned this whole fantastic hiking trip and really weren't prepared to give up on all of it just for a few injuries. Realistically, yes, I guess it would have been better for him to get the infection out faster and get sewed up and for me to rest in a bed for a week, but that would have turned out to be one boring trip. Instead we just shortened the hike up a bit. Our original plan was 12 days through 5500 meter peaks; we ended only getting as high as 5000 and in about 7 days around the mountains were mostly around 4000 meters. So we took it pretty easy.
We're okay now, though. My hip is still fucked up pretty badly, my nose is broken and I've got a bunch of cuts and bruises, but nothing too serious. After a few days visiting the hospital (mostly for my buddy's infection) we continued hiking up in the northwest, though slower and safer than we were going before. Probably the funniest part of it all was that I thought I had this huge pimple on my arm that ended up being a stone that had lodged into my skin during the fall!

Thanks for your concern! I hope all is well with you and in a few weeks I'll be back on sciforums.
Well my friend got a pretty bad infection in his hand, but it's slowly turning into a very cool scar. It was late by the time we fell down the waterfall so we had to sleep on the edge of the cliff with wet clothes, which was kind of awful and made both of us sick. (Actually, we didn't sleep, we just huddled together for 12 hours until the sun came over us.)

Anyway, when I fell down I landed hip first head second into the base rock and the next few days were pretty hazy. When the sun finally came up we realized we had to get down the mountain because help couldn't make it up to our spot and one more night up there and we both would have been even worse off. It took me about 5 minutes to walk the first 5 feet and I threw up. So, the next 10 hours or so of getting off the mountain were a bit of a challenge.
