Could we create the perfect world?

Happiness is fleeting and not a continuous state. Fulfillment might be a more continuous goal.
Happiness is pretty much derived from people, one's relationships.

Society can only do so much.

What group of people need to feel better, in your example and how can society accomplish that?

I was actually planning to outline specifics. I think that generally, the only ways in which society can help it's citisens feel good are by laying down and enforcing plenty of non opressive legislation to protect these citizens and changing the way the schooling system works so that the subjects taught there are not so effing useless, and by taking better care of the environment along with the economy. Also, the schooling system should probably involve less work, more carefully designed, allowing more time to study the relevant subject in depth. The teachers should also probably explain how things work instead of just that they do work. Any fool can know. The point is to understand.

Also, technology should probably be updated, a lot.

I disagree but we may also define "happiness" differently. You can overload the serotonin receptors in the brain. Happiness is a state and not a trait (not continuous).

Well. By happiness I just mean existing as one wishes to exists. It is not impossible to maintain that.

That's probably just because we all live in such an effed up world.

The schooling system can always be improved to make it more effective. The schooling system is not society however (except in those limited years where it is your society).

If money was no issue you could make learning fun, as it should be to an inquisitive mind. Given the realities, it's likely to instead feel like a grind. It gets much better in that regard in college.

Still, the educational system isn't "society". The individual influences society a lot more than society influences the individual IMO. Individuals are the society. Without individuals "society" has no money, no ability to do anything. There is never going to be a high level of "lifestyle" for everyone without most everyone having to be productive.

What do you mean by happiness?

The "euphoric" state that you get when someone give you a hug, or when you laugh or something along those lines. It isn't continuous.

I think my version of "fulfilling" is more what you would call "happiness". If you are content, doing what you want to do in general and are satisfied, in general, with your life I would call that being fulfilled.

In any event, it's mainly up to you. You can take two people who live under similar circumstances and one can be fulfilled and the other may feel dissatisfied. It's kind of like the glass half full rather than half empty metaphor. It's your choice.

Everyone could make themselves "unhappy" or sad or worried but those same people could also, in general, choose not to do that.

To make it more broad, you can do nothing but focus on how "bad" the world is, the "environment", the economy or whatever. In reality if you turn off the TV, mass media or whatever and look around, your personal life is probably pretty decent. There is always something to worry about if you so choose but it's generally not conducive to your mental health.

Well yes but the glass half full metaphor is about encouraging people to pathetically accept what they want to change. To do so is literally insane in many cases.

If worrying about something actually results in motivation to change then that is positive. If it doesn't, it's not. It's usually just an excuse.

Before Covid, I used to go to a rock climbing gym frequently. It's quite common for newer climbers to feel that the reason they aren't very good is because...they are too old, too fat, the wrong sex, didn't get started in their teens, etc.

It's usually true to a small degree, meaning that if they were the perfect age, perfect body build, etc. they would have the most things going for them. However, it's not the real reason that they aren't climbing very well.

The real reason is that they haven't yet put in the work to learn to climb well. Maybe they are an overweight female in her 50's. She thinks she can't climb because guys are stronger, she weighs too much, she didn't start climbing in her teens...

My comment to such a person would be to look around the gym and find someone who is about her age and weight and that climbs much better than she does. It's always easy to find such a person.

That's when they realize that their excuses are what is holding them back. Once they ditch the excuses...guess what?...they start climbing a lot better. :)

Okay. Worry is nothing but negative though. it is actually the speculation of what might happen which motivates one, rather than the negative interpretation of said speculation.

I would say that most people have fairly similar views of what perfection is

The church indicates that their organisation know what perfection is

It is up above the clouds and you gather around the boss and sing to him all day about how wonderful he is

:)

Every problem has to have a basis in reality. If one's reality is right, then one feels right. The brain can't mess that up.

Try telling drug addicts that

Their realty is governed by a drug messed up brain, BUT it is their realty

:)

Yeah but not a reality they really want .

It seems to me that nothing is out of reach for the human species as a whole, but that the way they use what they have is simply ridiculous, and if they only, just for a moment, used what they had in the right way, all of their laws and technology and knowledge, they could bring bliss to everyone without exception. This is a thread about the logistics of doing so, and any speculation on the matter is welcome.

Bliss is not necessary a good mental state to be in All the time .
