Fraggle:Conduct Unbecoming

The only problem I have with Fraggle's post is the calling SAM an asshole part. Even if she is, it's not appropriate for a moderator. The problem is that if somebody reported a post from a non-mod member wherein somebody was called an asshole then the member posting the "asshole" insult would probably be given a warning or ban. In this regard, moderators should be held to the same standard.

I'd really rather not have to go around handing out warnings to moderators. And if it comes to bans, then demotion seems a better option. So, my advice to moderators would be to avoid the naughty language.
I actually think the quote following the asshole insult is worse...

Intellectual dishonesty is her schtick.
This is a kind of psychic insult. It makes claims to what her psychology and secret strategy really are. What is really going on behind her arguments. One can tell sometimes if someone is an asshole - it shoudl still be off limits to say it. But his read of her motives and how she herself 'actually' views her arguments and posts, is really improper.

Fraggle didn't suggest a "methodology." He simply described his ideal end-state: an absence of (fundie, Abrahamic) religion. He said nothing at all about how such should, or could, be accomplished. All of the accusations of genocidal or repressive "methods" are 100% inventions of detractors that have been shamelessly shoe-horned into his mouth. I congratulate him on refusing to legitimate such by responding.
He refers to organizations as wanting something, if you are correct. That is a strange concept.

Why on earth are you required to do that???
You'd stick up for someone if that person was acting like an ass, merely because that person is part of your culture and their opponent isn't?
That's really...really..weird.

It is not because he is from the same culture as me that I defend him, it is that I understand he feels he has the right to say what ever he damn well feels like he wishes that I feel I must defend him. And I don't care where you were born or raised frankly. I am more understanding if you are an American though. Because in America, we have been raised to always speak our mind, it is our birth right!

I don't feel "required" to do anything. . . I feel like it is only ethical and moral. . . it is part of a way to preserve freedom if we all wish to remain intellectually, emotionally, and physically free. Freedom is what I cherish most.

Do you cherish your freedom or sensibilities more? Frankly, I can handle being insulted as long as I am free. I can't handle having my thoughts, my speech and actions controlled, as long as the trade off is not being insulted.
What do you cherish more, your identity and freedom, or your sensibilities? I'd rather defend who you are and your right to be, rather than your right not to be insulted.

bullshit.
the ONLY defense frag deserves is in relation to the mod team, nothing more.

w/e. Like I said. . . It is precisely the reverse for me. I don't think there should be any moderation at all on the Forums. On a discussion Forum like this, the free market should determine moderation, members should moderate themselves. If they don't, and the act like children, they should be ignored. And if there is going to be moderation. . . then moderators shouldn't be involved in discussion unless it is only to help members with technical issues. Otherwise, the title "moderator" lends some sort of false authority to their posts, which quite frankly, as evidenced in this controversy, just isn't there.

The first lesson I learned at sciforums is that attacking ideas is not attacking the people who hold them. The second lesson, that if people do not like your ideas, they attack you. The second lesson was learned by putting the first one to practice

Good on you!
I had a feeling you didn't need anyone being self righteous or trying to come to your defense if you were being "flamed." Now, if they were censoring your posts, or deleting your freedom to speak your mind. . . I'll be the first to raise hell, you bet your arse. But this school yard whining?

As soon as the blood level gets heated and they start calling you names, you can be sure, that you have made your case, and the points have been scored. What else are they left with? The victory is yours.

But he's a mod, and broke forum rules. Personal attacks are against rules. If there was some sort of reprimanding process, we're not privy.

SAM just got back from a ban for breaking forum rules. Posting of violent and NSFW material in-thread, also against rules.

Remember, we have free speech in general, but every forum's a privately-owned space, with site rules. You don't like it, go get your own site.
I'd just like to see...fairness. Lack of fairness bothers me.

In those quoted posts in the OP he is breaking forum rules, forum rules he likely enforces elsewhere. If he's a moderator, this is a problem. There are limitations on free speech in here, which he also enforces.

SAM used to be a mod once too, you know.
What kind of mod do you think she was?
She was a flippin' nightmare! :)
Oooooh, back years ago we had these red patches see.
When you did something wrong, they's put a red patch on yer.
It was permanent poppy day.

I can see why it was difficult to ban Fraggle. He's a volunteer.
But to ban Sam, and not ban Fraggle, yes that was unfair.
Bad decision, whoever it was.

Which one is SAM?
She can't be the pig, and she's not a chicken, or a lamb, and she's not docile like poor Boxer the horse, and she's never cowed.
She must be the brush.

There was a cat at Animal Farm...
But SAM butts heads so much.

Fraggle reminds me of a giraffe.
Gustav... a pileated woodpecker, always chiseling his way into things...
Kremmen...river otter?
I think I'm becoming much more bonobo these days, myself.

Perhaps a good bit lower on the evolutionary line...

If any machine is not working, I strike it repeatedly. I know this will help.
Mmhmm. Yep.
Wow. This thread looks like a lot more fun than the other...

Caffeine for all!!!

Too much caffeine will kill you!
Well - we all have to go one way or another - a hot cup of Java and a nice looking female (or whatever your orientation/predilection might be) human...

Let's just say there are worse possibilities...

:)

..but at least you will be wide awake to watch it happen!

I would say something profound and insightful, but this is neither the time or the place for that.

Bonobo's are great! One of our closest relatives...and preferential to some of mine as well. :)

Ahhh. Bonobos... Closest relative, right? I think I might have accidentally spent a little too much time with one, after closing time at the pub... Or maybe not?
