I'm not sure if I was in the wrong mood or what-not, but I was underwhelmed by last night's episode. I'm a huge fan of the comics and gobbled up last season like nicely stewed brains, but something felt ... off about last night.

Could've been me, I'll admit.

I finally watched the 2 season premiere of the walking dead. Even though I watched it ondemand, I fast forwarded through alot of commercials. It was more commercials than show. but .... It was really good. Now I'm wondering what happen to the little girl and if the boy dies from the shot gun wound. Also it was by accident aiming for the deer, and I wonder if its the same people who may have run into the girl. (if she is still alive!)

Can't wait to watch the next one! I was not disappointed. However, there was a question to apart of the show. Why did they think they could tell if it was the girl the zombie may have eatten? Its all flesh when it goes down.:(

It's an okay show, but it seems to be steadily degenerating into a soap opera where half the screen time is wasted on people bitching about their bad marriage, or praying, or having a heart-to-heart talk about xyz, or whatever.

Don't get me wrong, character development is a good thing. I would like to see more insight into the characters, learn about their back-story, etc. But you have to do it in an interesting way, and fit it smoothly into the rest of the show. Don't just hit the brakes on the interesting zombie show that I've been watching and switch over to a "Days of our lives" episode. It also smacks of the writers/producers looking for a cheap, easy way to fill screen time...

You may not like this season then. The story is, they say, going to focus more on human problems.

The best zombie stories understand that the zombies are more like an environmental hazard. They are a raging blizzard or erupting volcano that places the human characters under stress, and the real story is what the stress does to the humans, and how they cope with it. If the point were simply to kill zombies, they story would get dull fast.

I also tend to think that writing character backstory is a good bit harder then writing "Then five zombies appear." In the latter, there is no dialogue and you really only have to think of 5 ways to kill a zombie, all of which will be variations on either "shot to the head" or "whack in the head."

I dunno I like how awesome the redneck has become.

You guys really not drawn into the kid getting accidentally shot...at all? I didn't expect anything like that...

The accidental shooting didn't really hook me, though it didn't put me off either. It's like the kid simply slipped and hit his head on a rock. It was more of a device to bring them into contact with the new group and to give a member of that group a strong moral reason to help Shane fight the zombies to gain the medical supplies. The same issue could have been handled in different ways, and they chose a perfectly serviceable one.

Two minor things that did bother me about the episode:

(1) The zombie that attacked Andrea in the forest came out of no where...he was apparently simply standing next to a tree waiting for her to walk past. From the camera's angle, you couldn't see him...but from Andrea's the zombie should have been obvious. She must have no peripheral vision, not even a narrow cone of it.

(2) When Shane approached the school, hiding behind cars, why were *all* the zombies, hundreds it seemed, walking only in a tight and well defined area...and all conveniently on the far side of those cars? The zombies had plenty of room to spread out, you'd think a few would, just randomly, straggle away from the main mass.

TBH this season is a HUGE let down and that stupid zombietalk bullshit afterwords makes it even worse :( big dissipointment.. and they waited WAY to long

I was surprised they didn't even try to start up the mobile medical lab and just plow thru the zombies.

Also, does anyone really think that the military would have a hard time dealing with zombies? A few guys with machine guns could wipe out quite a few zombies. A well armed and organized group of soldiers should be able to sweep thru zombies like a knife thru butter.

Yes, there's a deep sense fatality (reminds me of America in general) to this show that I find a bit heavy. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE zombie flicks, but, it does seem like no one's really optimistic except for the old man and the redneck (who has turned quite cool).

Why were the Zombie all right in front of the medical van? Why did he tell the girl to run? He should have said, climb up into that tree and wait for me to get back. Why wear gloves if you're just gong to get zombie shit all over yourself AND never get infected. It's like blood splat right into the chicks mouth and she's not infected?

I'd like to see some back story on why the military was boned so easily.

On the whole, I do like the show, S02E03 tomorrow :)

Don't you see that the redneck is a great foil for humanity in general. While he was very detrimental to society before the apocalypse, he is one it's most valuable members after.

That's why we are on top now and that's why we will continue to be on top. We have got a person for every situation.

And moreover that's why we tolerate people like him now, we never know when we might need him. It's why he is now even helping the black guy, cause he knows every single person is important. No one knows this better than him.

This. First season, especially where they used zombie parts to cloak themselves, you were under the impression that touching zombies was a big no-no, but it was the only way to get across the mob, so they were very, very careful. Now this season, they're letting blood and parts fly as they chop away. It made sense that if they're infected, you didn't need anything touching you, but now it's only through a bite directly?

It still keeps my interest through the show, it's just one thing that bugged me.

It could be the virus started with them.

Hey, it's fine with me if you want to use the backdrop of a zombie uprising to tell interesting human stories. But you had better make them INTERESTING human stories, and you had better be prepared to do a GOOD JOB telling them. The "human drama" of Walking Dead is 1) boring and 2) just sort of thrown at you with long dialog segments that smack of money-saving filler that doesn't strain the special effects budget.

Also, it's a bit of an obnoxious straw-man for you to suggest that the only options are for them to either sit around bitching to each other (er, sorry, I meant "providing character backstory"), or have mindless zombie action sequences. There are all sorts of interesting things that these characters could be doing/talking about. What is happening in the rest of the world? What caused the zombies in the first place? How/where/when will the survivors try to rebuild society? Are there dangerous, armed human survivors? How are the world's religions dealing with the fact that the dead are returning to life? That's just a short list off the top of my head of stuff that would be more interesting for them to explore than how much their marriage sucks...

I agree such things should (and likely some will) also be covered. That said, if you don't think their bitching is interesting or entertaining, why did you imagine your bitching on this forum would be met differently?

Personally, it seems obvious to me as a matter of story telling that they need to nail down the relationships within the group to a certain degree before they delve deeply into the relationships with outsiders or the state the the world in general. In fact, they have teased us with some details of the fate of the rest of the world in the CDC episode. They obviously intend to build on that at some stage. I suspect they are just laying the ground work.

If you don't like it, of course you're entitled to your opinion...but then why not just stop watching?

I gave my opinion on the topic of discussion. If you only want to hear from people who agree with you about everything, this whole "internet" thing might not be your cup of tea. But, in the interest of assuaging any hard feelings, I apologize if it hurt your feelings when I said mean things about the show that you like.

They've already run through a complete season; they should be well past the "laying the groundwork" phase.

It hasn't yet gotten so bad that I don't enjoy it. But I'm getting increasingly frustrated with the direction it seems to be headed.
