I met Freckles after almost a year and she's being a complete tool. She won't sit, follows me around and will not believe she is being scolded for insisting on "piling on"

Here is her expression when she is being scolded:

    Small dogs

    Correction: Small dogs are crazy.

I'm a cat person in general, but there are plenty of dogs I adore. Small dogs annoy the hell out of me, though.

    Because they're crazy.

She looks a little plump. Maybe she'd move her butt for a treat?

She sounds bored, but that's a separate problem. If you want her to go somewhere else besides sitting on you, you reward her for going there. First you might urge her to move, and if she obeys to the smallest degree, make a sharp clicking sound to mark that behavior (there are clickers available at pet stores), and then reward her with a treat. Gradually, she will learn the expected behavior.

If the underlying problem is boredom, you have to play with her more, give her challenges, tasks. Even just doing the clicker training once a day will help.

    She might have separation anxiety...

    Same here.

When I have my own place I will definitely have an Alsatian. Probably another dog too as they are strongly pack-social.

She was overweight, but that was because she was abandoned and had separation anxiety and everyone rewarded her to make her feel good. Now she's stable and losing the excess puppy fat. She's just about a year and a half and we've had her since she was four months.

I've taken her for two walks already, fed her watered her. Now she's sleeping but she keeps clambering over my neck and sleeping cheek to cheek, it makes it hard for me to do anything.

Give me an example of what I can do.

Awww. Yeah, dogs are great. I just have my cats. They're great, though.

SAM, does she have any toys? What about a dog park?

She had Squeaky but she shredded him, now there's only Ropey. No dog park nearby though I am planning on a pool day on Friday. She likes the water.

More toys, stat! It'll get her off your back (neck?) for awhile. Also, maybe a nice rawhide or dentabone?

Okay, it means I have to go shopping. I'm still crashing from multiple flights and have a full day tomorrow. Sigh.

Teach her tricks, like shaking hands, fetching things, just google clicker training to learn more about the method. It's used to train everything from goldfish to killer whales.

My cat does the same thing, but if gets annoying I just push her off.
