View Full Version : your life has purpose? tell me about it Search & Destroy 03-21-08, 11:26 PM So if you believe you know the purpose of your life tell it to me now. Vkothii 03-22-08, 01:45 AM Do you mean from a biological or from a moral or an altruistic, or anthropological perspective ..? That's the useful thing about perspective, you can hide behind one. cosmictraveler 03-22-08, 10:18 AM I am born, I consume, I reproduce, I think, I die. Yorda 03-22-08, 10:39 AM I am born, I consume, I reproduce, I think, I die. don't be a fool. i am never born because i'm eternal, then i am born into a body and i have fun and then i die and go to the nonphysical spirit world and have more fun and then i go back again. greenberg 03-22-08, 02:27 PM So if you believe you know the purpose of your life tell it to me now. To be happy and not to suffer. Enmos 03-22-08, 03:08 PM In what light do want my answer ? cosmictraveler 03-22-08, 04:58 PM Almost forgot that making mistakes is also a very big part of life. Search & Destroy 03-23-08, 01:25 PM Well what I am wanting to get at is this People ask themselves the purpose of life, the question dwells and is probably unsolvable (stepping out of the system (yourself) to assign yourself purpose.) You could look at it in a deterministic way and say something like "my purpose is to extend my genetic influence." But I don't think an answer like that satisfies anybody. None of the usual answers can provide satisfaction. Now when you're or content or in a very good mood, ask yourself the question. What happens? You don't care. The purpose of life goes from something difficult and grinding on the mind to something simple. The purpose of life is just to be alive, right now, and I am content with that. I propose a universal purpose of life, to be content and spread contentedness. cosmictraveler 03-23-08, 01:28 PM I propose a universal purpose of life, But you are then dictating to others what your idea about life is, not letting them determine their own. Search & Destroy 03-23-08, 01:31 PM that's fine with me. Or maybe another angle is I am helping them find their own (which is always the same) cosmictraveler 03-23-08, 01:32 PM Then where will any deviation or growth come from if everyone is the same? Search & Destroy 03-23-08, 01:53 PM Aren't there typically many ways to reach a goal? Here is a rule that any individual can adopt: "individual purpose" - Life's purpose is to be content. because once content, purpose is irrelevant. The purpose, engulfs itself. Are you troubled by a purpose problem, struggling to find meaningful purpose in your life? Buy "individual purpose" cleaner - the way to deal with your purpose-problem's death. pharaohmoan 03-24-08, 07:06 AM The purpose of life is to rise above the crap and come out unscathed yet knowledgable of what to avoid in order to remain in a higher stream of consciousness and experience a more pleasing reality. We do this by piling knowledge upon knowledge and experience upon experience. Search & Destroy 03-24-08, 04:03 PM The purpose of life is to rise above the crap and come out unscathed yet knowledgable of what to avoid in order to remain in a higher stream of consciousness and experience a more pleasing reality. We do this by piling knowledge upon knowledge and experience upon experience. This is just your belief - a purpose you created for yourself, for how could it be any other way? How can you step outside of yourself and assign a meaningful purpose? Consider an ant, one of millions in an ant colony who goes by the name pharoahmoant. One day he is piling rocks, and considers the purpose of life. The atoms respond: "We are here to bounce!" The cells say "We are here to multiply!" The organs say "To transform energy!" The pharoahmoant then says "No, I am here to pile rocks!" The ant colony says "You are here to build a nest!" greenberg 03-24-08, 04:17 PM My my, that is one mighty ant then, piling rocks! Enmos 03-24-08, 04:22 PM My my, that is one mighty ant then, piling rocks! Ants pile up rocks all the time, very 'small' ones.. ;) http://www.sibleynaturecenter.org/daytrips/naturetrail0708/39.jpg sowhatifit'sdark 03-24-08, 08:44 PM I propose a universal purpose of life, to be content and spread contentedness. Content seems to me a reactive state. One I also value. I also like challenges and adventures and am curious. I don't want to be simply content. Which is why images of Heaven and Nirvana have often seemed offputting. Sitting around blissfully content with God or with my own Kundalini or the breathing in and out of the universe actually sounds like a nightmare to me. Despite, and in part because of, the eternal smile. pharaohmoan 03-25-08, 05:30 AM This is just your belief - a purpose you created for yourself, for how could it be any other way? How can you step outside of yourself and assign a meaningful purpose? Consider an ant, one of millions in an ant colony who goes by the name pharoahmoant. The pharoahmoant then says "No, I am here to pile rocks!" The ant colony says "You are here to build a nest!" Yes but it is a belief that is based on having piled many rocks in my lifetime. In your anology I see the colony as the collective and many would say I am at the whim of it (in your anology) just like society and how it thinks which is currently along the line of eat, be happy and multiply. It does not really steer us and it generally scorns those who choose to challenge the paranormal and peer underneath the circuitry. In your anology I would consider that ants can achieve great feats by collectively piling rocks and I would advise the collective of just that. Whether this falls on deaf ears is another matter altogether. So i stand by my orginal statement as I believe it to be the truth for me and logically speaking many others for I beleive it leads to true advancement. Loretta 03-25-08, 04:00 PM So if you believe you know the purpose of your life tell it to me now. Life in itself has no purpose as i understand it. People can decide on their own purpose but it isn't a given. draqon 03-25-08, 04:03 PM Purpose of life is to find a purpose to life. clusteringflux 03-25-08, 04:03 PM And what have you decided? Loretta 03-25-08, 04:04 PM Says who? That's inane sorry. draqon 03-25-08, 04:04 PM And what have you decided? there is whole life to decide. But I have made my choice already :) shorty_37 03-25-08, 04:04 PM Purpose of life is to find a purpose to life. Like the song by U2 " I still haven't found what I am looking for" Jozen-Bo 03-25-08, 04:05 PM So if you believe you know the purpose of your life tell it to me now. I can't tell you because you are incapable of understanding!!! Loretta 03-25-08, 04:05 PM there is whole life to decide. Look at my avatar and perhaps you will. Loretta 03-25-08, 04:06 PM you don't understand what I mean by "space". Maybe it helps if you say what you mean. draqon 03-25-08, 04:07 PM Maybe it helps if you say what you mean. that would make it too easy. Life is a puzzle for a purpose. clusteringflux 03-25-08, 04:07 PM Draqon is a master at saying nothing and he's proud of it. shichimenshyo 03-25-08, 04:08 PM you might as well just stop trying to reason with draq Jozen-Bo 03-25-08, 04:08 PM The Purpose of Life is to DIE!!! Loretta 03-25-08, 04:08 PM Draqon is a master at saying nothing and he's proud of it. Its confusing. And it doesn't help the discussion. shichimenshyo 03-25-08, 04:09 PM Its confusing. Loretta 03-25-08, 04:11 PM ... shichimenshyo 03-25-08, 04:12 PM Hes going to follow you everywhere now, the worst thing you could have done was put up a pic of yourself in your avatar. draqon 03-25-08, 04:12 PM ... those three dots symbolize continuation of thought yet your inacceptance of the general concept of discussion? :bugeye: Loretta 03-25-08, 04:13 PM It symbolizes utter astonishment at post 36. Search & Destroy 03-27-08, 12:06 PM Yes but it is a belief that is based on having piled many rocks in my lifetime. Whether this falls on deaf ears is another matter altogether. So i stand by my orginal statement as I believe it to be the truth for me and logically speaking many others for I beleive it leads to true advancement. ok so i see you have a purpose But when you die, so does the purpose, unless it comes from some higher-level system than yourself no? And which system do you choose, society? Why not the galaxy or God. That's why it is important that you're deaf. Isn't this whole purpose-seeking for ourselves flawed any which way? TruthSeeker 03-27-08, 01:24 PM So if you believe you know the purpose of your life tell it to me now. The purpose of my life in particular..... What I feel compelled to do is to create self-sustainable eco-friendly communities accross the planet. It appears to me that this is the best strategy to eliminate world poverty, preserve the environment and create world peace. Search & Destroy 03-27-08, 02:08 PM Here is some insight I took from Richard Dawkins. A long time ago, the best thinkers did not understand gravity, and now children do. We look at a solid object and think it's solid. But at an atomic level it is mostly empty space. So there are two ways to look at the object, as empty space or solid space. Every human sees solid space. Because we have evolved on this planet, on this scale, so that it would only be useful to see it as solid. Now in the same thought of shifting levels of perception, what is a monkeys model of the world? Mostly 3-d looking for branches, a moles? underground, a water insect? etc. A humans? social. An economists best model of humans is looking at us as goal-seeking purposeful individuals. And I think most of us have that world-model too. But shift away from our biologically set was of seeing things, and realize from another level you have a different purpose. pharaohmoan 03-27-08, 04:12 PM ok so i see you have a purpose But when you die, so does the purpose, unless it comes from some higher-level system than yourself no? And which system do you choose, society? Why not the galaxy or God. That's why it is important that you're deaf. Isn't this whole purpose-seeking for ourselves flawed any which way? Sorry i don't agree with you here. I happen to rememeber my past lives and normally make of point of reminding myself that my spirit lives on. Whether I would come back as a human again is doubtful, but I have learnt a lot about approaching 'the zone' by which I mean the energy and consciouness that exists out there. Orleander 03-27-08, 06:42 PM So if you believe you know the purpose of your life tell it to me now. My purpose is to make what I can better. Through my own actions and through the actions of my children (by how I have raised them). My purpose is to be the nicest human I can be. granpa 03-27-08, 06:58 PM the purpose of life is to move toward our goals. the question is do people ever do anything else? do people willfully act self destructively by moving away from their goals? Orleander 03-27-08, 07:00 PM ummm, wouldn't a drug addicts goal be to score more drugs? Its destructive, but it is a goal. granpa 03-27-08, 08:35 PM ummm, wouldn't a drug addicts goal be to score more drugs? Its destructive, but it is a goal. what if the drug addict doesnt want to do it but feels unable to control himself? for that matter does any drug addict really want to do it or do they just think they want it? Search & Destroy 03-30-08, 03:34 AM You know, maybe this is just nihilism or buddhism. I say purpose doesn't really exist, unless you put your faith in having it assigned to you by a higher form of life. You can give yourself purpose, a goal or vision of the future. And in that sense purpose exists. But to say it is not subject to change, or as a trick to avoid death is foolish. I'm gonna let this thread die granpa 03-30-08, 10:03 AM You know, maybe this is just nihilism or buddhism. I'm gonna let this thread die isnt that exactly what i just addressed. the question is not whether it changes or whether it is given from above but rather whether we ourselves are capable of going against our own goals. please reread my post below. |
