View Full Version : would you want to live to 100?
lucifers angel 01-10-08, 11:15 AM Hinestly now, who here would want to love to 100yrs old?
i know i wouldnt your body would break down, and if your ill then thats got to be worse.
i ahve to admit i would go of to switzerland and euthinise (sp) myself where it is legal and ok to do so.
i dont want to know what the world is like in 70yrs time.
It all depends on health and happiness.
mikenostic 01-10-08, 11:25 AM I probably wouldn't even want to live to 70 or 80. As soon as my body starts deteriorating to where I need mechanical assistance to walk, you can Kevorkian me right then.
Now, if we didn't age as fast and I had the same capability at 100 as I did when I was 25, then hell yeah I'd love to live that long.
Meh - when I get to 100 the average life expectancy will hopefully be 150.
And when I'm 150 it should be an average expectancy of 200.
And I'll forever be chasing the young nurses on the Psycho Ward to my 500th birthday!!
\o/
not me matey im never returning either
I would want to live past 100, I have a duty to myself in this world I must accomplish.

So if your mind is good but you need a walker or wheelchair, you want someone else to kill you. :bugeye:
Orleander 01-10-08, 02:17 PM As long as my body works, I want to keep on living. I don't even care if I have Alzhaimer's. If I do, I won't know it will I.
cosmictraveler 01-10-08, 04:18 PM I will never really die. I will transmutate into energy and ride the cosmic sea until I gently lose my charge and my penis goes limp.
No, it'd be too boring, especially since the body parts will all be below par

yeah sure.
Exhumed 01-10-08, 05:41 PM I want to live forever, if possible, and think anyone who doesn't want to live as long as possible is suicidal, which should be considered a psychological problem.
Fortunately for me and Draqon by the time we are old medicine will quite possibly advance to get rid of enough of the worst parts.

oh sweet...yup Exhumed...fortunately the nano-machines will save us before we are gone.

Exhumed 01-10-08, 05:47 PM That would be nice, but I see no reason to expect them. Fortunately they're not strictly required! :p What is going on in that pic?

It will destroy us.. http://www.exitmundi.nl/graygoo.htm

picture of a nanodevice...systems with nanostructured components that perform some assigned function other than manipulating nano or atomic scale matter.
My guess is it is attaching itself to a membrane of a cell to transfer some sort of material perhaps...passing the phospholipid layer and perhaps changing the DNA of the cell by replenishing it with another one without the lost telomerases.
But thats just my theory (they dont explain it)

oh...don't be sooo fearful of science. The same way Darwin said humans were not creations at once but rather evolution, at instant others have preached of the doom from such an idea...
And we are well and alive and so will nanotech keep us that way.

Have you read that page ? :p

the best parts, kinda hard to believe thou
researchers managed to arrange 35 single xenon atoms so that they spelled out the logo of IBM. Rumour has it that another research team responded to this crafty display of atom knitting by doing some intellectual nano graffiti: `Bill Gates sucks', also jotted down in single xenon atoms.
A nano assembler would for instance pick up plain carbon atoms and rearrange them into the molecular structure of a diamond. Or it would make water out of the atomic parts of plain air. Or a cheese sandwich out of dust. Or water into wine, you name it.
hey I got an idea...we need to make something like and RNA-DNA molecule which will act as an assembler...but we got to use Au (gold) somehow...
Anyways' the author forgets that everything needs energy...and this nanomachines will not eat the Earth up to create trillion of cheese sandwiches...the nanomachines will simply not have energy

Make a thread about it :)
We are polluting Inzomnia's thread :o
Exhumed 01-10-08, 06:07 PM It's Lucifer Angel's thread, so can we keep polluting? Because I wanted to say that nano assembler is pseudo-science.

I would disagree. DNA-RNA molecule is a nano assembler created by nature. Who says we cant do it?

Exhumed 01-10-08, 06:15 PM DNA has yet to make me a cheese sandwich :D
Things in the same realm as DNA are obviously possible, but not something that can custom make molecules in anyway wanted, like a cheese sandwich from scratch. These people think nano technology will allow us to arrange atoms like legos.

in time it will.
Exhumed 01-10-08, 06:23 PM in time it will.
Why? Exhumed says it's impossible. Normal chemical behavior > our desire.
Why? Exhumed says it's impossible. Normal chemical behavior > our desire.
well I say it's possible. our desires constantly change. We wanted to fly, we can fly now. We wanted to have food all the time, now we do if we want to. We wanted stars and space, well here it is the moon is now a place for alien flags and debris of last century.
Exhumed 01-10-08, 06:27 PM We wanted time travel, and now we have no time travel...except forward...

don't be so hasty... in time we will or in time we will realize that we don't need such.
It's Lucifer Angel's thread
Well yeah, but it was kind of dedicated to Inzomnia..
Xx Dukes xX 01-10-08, 06:36 PM I would not want to live 100+. My body would fail and life wouldn't be worth living. I think after 70 you have gotten the most out of life and the rest is just sitting around playing cards or baking cakes all day. You could say " It's Suicidal not too" but I think you're emo for wanting to feel nothing but pain for the rest of your life. Eh?

what you define as "pain" for others is time to live.

lol @ the pic, I guess you're right, and who knows your body might work perfectly fine, and you can become the person you wanted to be.

Yeah, I'm wondering why everyone is so convinced they will have fallen apart. Its decades away for most of us. Plenty of time to get healthy or at least have medical science help us along to a better body.

I'm 14 so for me by the time i'm 100 I will be a robot before I die
Well yeah, but it was kind of dedicated to Inzomnia..
Never mind, I'm confusing two threads..
Me -> :crazy:+:o and :sleep:
I'm off to bed..
I want to live as long as I'm supposed to live. As long as I'm destined to live. I will do my part to stay healthy. I know people in their 90s who are in great shape--very few problems. One was my friend's great-grandmother. She lived to 107, was sharper mentally than people half her age, drove very well until 95 (!!) and had a great life of travelling and evangelizing wherever she went.
My only concern would be my teeth. Since they're perfect now, maybe I would have to have implants when I'm old and they start to go. Or veneers.
I have no fear of body issues. Spiritual health is more important to me than any of the others.:)
USS Exeter 01-10-08, 08:06 PM Until I lose my will to live, for example I am living in a nursing home when I am 95, I have alzheimers. I would have no will to live and so my life is essentially over. Also when I know I have accomplished what I wanted to in my life.
Alzheimer's is under attack and may be eradicated by the time you're old:

:bravo:
I would only wish to live to 100 or more if I had my health and alertness. Without a healthy body and a responsive mind, the quality of life plummets. I work around very old patients at the hospital on weekends (usually with Alzheimer's and other neurodegenerative diseases), and it really makes me appreciate what I have now. If my life is to come down to sleeping in a hospital all day without any knowledge of the world around me, I would much rather pass away at a younger age.
flameofanor5 01-10-08, 08:44 PM I think I'd go crazy if I lived that old...
