View Full Version : white holes ? pcd2k 10-02-02, 09:38 PM are they apparrent or are they just someones pet theory ? shore would be keen to see some www links ? wet1 10-02-02, 09:58 PM Think about it. What would a white hole be? The other end of a black hole? If so then it would have to spew out energy and be a general "universal flashlight". Nothing suggests that physically such is in existance by observational data that can not be explained by other means. Since matter can not be used that is within the black hole it is unlikely that white holes exist. These links are not reputable science links but can be used to glean some hypothetical information... What is a white hole? (http://www.imsa.edu/edu/astro/astrostudents/97_98_1/t03p3/whitehole.html) Answer (http://curious.astro.cornell.edu/question.php?number=108) pcd2k 10-03-02, 06:15 AM thank you I'll cruithne over it Giskard 10-03-02, 08:17 AM What is a white hole? I believe we refer to it as a star. Thor 10-03-02, 09:19 AM 'Its a white hole' 'A what?' 'A white hole' 'WHAT IS IT' 'Its like a black hole, but instead of sucking in light and time, its throws it all out again' 'So that explains these jumps in time then' 'A white hole' 'WHAT IS IT' 'Its like a black hole, but instead of sucking in light and time, its throws it all out again' 'A what?' 'A white hole' 'WHAT IS IT' 'Its like a black hole, but instead of sucking in light and time, its throws it all out again' 'Come on, lets get out of here' 'WHAT IS IT.........only joking' Red Dwarf, so many fond memories monkapotomus 10-03-02, 10:40 PM i was raped by a dingo. wet1 10-03-02, 10:51 PM Folks, do post. How about something on the topic. This is not Free Thoughts... wet1 10-04-02, 10:38 PM I believe we refer to it as a star. Hmmm, not quite. Think about it. The opposite of the black hole. Meaning that you could not reach the surface of a white hole anymore that you could leave the surface of a black hole... thed 10-05-02, 02:36 AM FWIW, if white holes existed they would be connected to black holes by wormholes. Properly called an Einstein Rosen Podolsky bridge. The theory also says these wormholes can appear in any region of spacetime. More prosaically, they can appear in other universes or move through time. (BTW, I've been busy these last few months. Hopefully it's quitened down now I hope.) Thor 10-05-02, 05:48 AM Wet1, I was trying to say something (but obvious forgot to add the important bit at the end *slaps head* ) Aren't white holes supposed to 'vomit' time and cause leaps or the speeding up of time itself as opposed to black holes that suck in time? pcd2k 10-05-02, 07:12 AM seem to be more theoretical, as in here http://casa.colorado.edu/~ajsh/schww.html -iLluSiON- 10-07-02, 01:03 PM Maybe quasars are somehow related with white holes. What do you think? pcd2k 10-08-02, 11:44 PM quasers ? white holes ? na dats to simplistic what do worm holes eqate with in your universe ? Lilicia 10-16-02, 03:27 PM how can anything "suck up" time? %BlueSoulRobot% 10-16-02, 06:02 PM Originally posted by monkapotomus i was raped by a dingo. No no, dingos eat your babies. *throws on an Australian accent* "A dingo stole your baby!" --- --- --- suck up time? Probably twist the very fabric of space and time, faster than light goes...so it sucks it in? I can't even get past the "fabric" part. :D Rick 10-18-02, 01:30 PM As Wet1 correctly pointed out White holes are nothing but opposite(rumored) of Blackholes. In simple terms the blackholes are suppose to suck the matter inside and produce the extreme warps, the white hole do opposite. White Holes ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Definition: White Hole ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A white hole is a time-reversed black hole. It has been suggested that a collapsing black hole can be reversed to make a white hole, in which everything rushes out in an immense release of energy. This theory was popular in astronomical circles in the 1970's. What happens when matter fall into singularity? It emerges elsewhere in the universe as a white hole, at a different place and time, or perhaps even in another universe. However, there is no evidence that matter can be transported in this manner and the concept of white holes no longer seems tenable... bye! yumyum 10-19-02, 06:54 PM ok here goes a crackpot theroy. what if the big bang was a white hole releasing all of its energy. so lets say a black hole in another universe sucked up every thing in that universe and with nowhere to expand to it turned into a white hole and expelled every thing creating a new universe. just a thought feel free to point out the flaws in my crackpot theroy. wet1 10-19-02, 07:07 PM yumyum, Your crackpot theory was once an alternate theory for the support of the Big Crunch. yumyum 10-19-02, 07:27 PM hmmm really i didnt know that. did it have many supporters. :) wet1 10-19-02, 07:39 PM I thought about it and that is not quite right. It was in support of the "Big Bang" and where everything might have come from. yumyum 10-19-02, 07:47 PM one thing I dont get is if the universe allways was (that is if you beleive that every thing dosent have to have a stating point) how do you have forever and endlessness. If thats true than my theroy is useless being how I said that at a point there was nothingness but the white hole, but then how do you have nothingness? psycho-sth-african 05-17-03, 12:09 AM I just joined in on this white hole discussion. Just 1 quick question, wouldn't the big bang be classified as white hole? I mean after all they say it starated at singularity, and just for some reason expanded changing energy into matter in the first few seconds. To my knowledge that is exactly what is explained to be a white hole Avatar 05-17-03, 01:45 PM Originally posted by wet1 yumyum, Your crackpot theory was once an alternate theory for the support of the Big Crunch. I'm starting to love this theory  what is wrong with it, i.e., why was it abandoned? armydog 05-19-03, 09:42 AM I am starting to like this theory also. Sounds like a good idea on the surface......Big Bang being a white hole. I too would like to hear some more of the falicies that caused the theory to be set aside. |
