View Full Version : whatever happened to chemistry? devils_reject 11-22-05, 12:57 PM I was wondering why material sciences like chemistry don't have their own domain in this forum. Just a thought guthrie 11-22-05, 01:17 PM I'm assuming its partly because chemistry is so broad that it comes into most categories. I did a chemistry degree and find it useful in everything from geology to biology. Or at least molecular biology. But I wouldnt call chemistry materials science, thats a more modern term for the area between engineering, physics and chemistry, roughly speaking. devils_reject 11-22-05, 11:28 PM You are my hero, I have been trying to finish my chemistry degree but no funds at the moment. Oh well its my second degree anyway! Nasor 11-29-05, 02:57 PM As someone who's currently working on my phd in chemistry I certainly wouldn't mind a chemistry area in the forum...sadly, there just aren't very many chemistry-related posts. The few that we do get seem to fit easily into the general science section. AntonK 11-29-05, 03:35 PM I know how you feel. I'm currently getting my PhD in Computer Science. We used to have a computer science section... but it was merged into Computer Science and Culture which usually brings more questions about video games than about computer science. Oh well, theres just not that many people working on anything at a PhD level really. We must be thankful for those we can find. -AntonK |
