If there is one country that shouldn't have WMD, it's the USA.

if it wasnt USA that had the WMD...but some other country...u would have said the same thing.

Thank-you for the article, TDR.
If the Bomb had been used in 1950 by the Americans in Korea, it certainly would have led to a much warmer 'Cold War'. I think that both sides using them early on in vicarious conflicts such as those in SE Asia would have put pressure on the Soviet and Nato governments to produce more tactical, instead of strategic nuclear weapons. And hopefully, a few uses of them would have roused public opinion to abolish them altogether. But perhaps one ought not be so optimistic about human nature.

If that country owned more WMDs than any other country, and had been the only country to ever actually employ the worst form of WMD (atomic bomb) on CIVILIANS, and was going around telling other countries that they couldn't have WMDs after selling WMDs to them in the first place, then yes.

Interesting question. I think it would have eliminated the taboo against using nukes. If we used them there, why not elsewhere? Instead, we spent fifty years terrified nuclear weapons would destroy all life on earth. Now to use them is almost unthinkable.
Bush talks about using nuclear bunker busters, but you know he'd never use them. They're nukes. But if we had used them successfully against China, we'd have used them again, and again. Our response to Sept 11 would almost certainly have been nuclear. Why bother putting troops in harms way? Just nuke the bastards.

You clearly don't know the history of WWII. Firstly operation Downfall was planned and ready to go, the Invasion of Japan. The Americans assessed that the operation would take the form of a large D-Day like amphibious assault in several places along the japanese coastline. Estimated Casualties were going to be huge, approximately 1,000,000 US lives, not including Japanese casualties. The Entire US marine Corps was going to be used. And with the help of Intelligence it was determined that Japan was gearing up to it by arming civilians, women and children with weapons to fight back the Americans. Had downfall come about, the Japanese civilian population, inflamed by a national slogan -- One Hundred Million Will Die for the Emperor and Nation -- was prepared to fight to the death.
Personally i prefer the Atomic bomb being dropped Hiroshima and Nagasaki. And a message to all those who yell and cry "The US is the only country to drop a nuclear bomb" i've got only one reply... THOSE WERE DIFFERENT TIMES! QUIT LIVING IN THE PAST!
P.S. Info on operation Downfall and Olympic can be found here (http://www.neswa.org.au/Library/Articles/olympic.htm)
Also 617 Squadron (the Dambusters) were going to be sent to the Pacific in order to bomb important bridges between the main islands, to stop or slow the movement of Japanese troops. However, the N bombs were dropped before they got there.
