View Full Version : what do you live for?
god-of-course 05-17-03, 07:57 PM Ok, i was just wondering what everyone makes the purpose of their life, i mean some people live just to enjoy life as much as possible, some people want to leave their mark on the world, for some people it's a religeous reason and for others they live to make others happy. personally i live to constantly better myself and to be the best person i can, mentally, physically and spiritually. plz post a thought. also what about biological purpose i.e. reproduction/survival and continuation of the gene pool. thnx
Pollux V 05-17-03, 08:11 PM I live for the future. That the future is really only a figment of my imagination, and truly nonexistent (until it becomes the present) means that to a certain extent I live for nothing.
However to proceed with this post I must assume that the future does indeed exist, instead of merely theoretically existing.
There are some things I'd like to do. I'd like to write some books, live a nice life and get into politics when I'm older. I have your typical "you-can't-stop-me-world-itis," but what the hell is a YCSMWI infectee supposed to do but attempt to live out his dream, and infection?

FireMinstrel 05-17-03, 10:08 PM I live to try and salvage the modern music scene, and to learn anything I can, and to do have fun, of course. I live to utilize my full potential, and make the most of this world, despite being a misanthrope. :p
man_of_jade 05-17-03, 10:10 PM I live for love, hope, compassion, and to heklp others to the bewst of my ability.
sargentlard 05-17-03, 10:19 PM I live to find that woman who is going to make my life worthwhile and make me want to be a better person all together, she'll show me how beautiful she is and this world is because i don't seem to see it own my own. However, she'll never come so i live to be successful...somewhat successful.
;)
I live to attach myself to the face of some silly humanoid. I then paralyze there mussles and shove my abdomen down there throat. I then secret my larvae into the esophogus where it will burrow in an feed till it reaches the "chestbuster" stage and it has the teeth to to burrow out threw the breast plate. By then thought I would have long fallen off the humanoid and died else where.
NightFall 05-18-03, 01:30 AM im definately the type that wants to leave their mark on the world.. even if its just a little mark, or some paint chipping off somehwhere , that would be good enough for me.
Thats a good question... I used to think I knew, but my purpose slowly became murky, when I became older, and the years flew. Now I'm more uncertain, less sure than lots of you... to maybe see the sunshine tomorrow... alas, when this one is through.. youth is often wasted, when I was younger, I thought I knew.. I'd like to see the sun of tommorrow come... when the gray of today is through..
Whyatt Thrash 05-18-03, 07:25 AM Didn't realize I needed a specific reason to live...
There is none. I have plans, but none of them are essential to my life. What "keeps me going" varies from day to day. One day it's art, another it's music, one it's climbing, another it's Poi, the other it's friends, the last was beer, another day future plans, yet another it's sleep etc...
The Marquis 05-18-03, 08:03 AM Me.
I live to spawn. I'll one day swim upstream, release my clutch of eggs into the clear waters to be fertilized, then lie on the banks and have my dying body eaten by black bears.
Dr Lou Natic 05-18-03, 08:18 AM We all live to breed, everything else we do is designed to stop us from getting too depressed and killing ourselves before we breed.
Its funny when you think about the complexity of the activites we developed to keep us distracted from the grim cold reality of life.
Not really. As the Divine Marquis says (or said, since he's all dead and shit now):
"Sexual pleasure is, I agree, a passion to which all others are subordinate but in which they all unite."
It's not that science and art are things we do to pass the time. These things are simply ways to fuck and to reproduce well.
Still, it'd suck to be a salmon.
Dudeyhed 05-18-03, 08:35 AM I live to better myself, like god-of-course. I can't see what else there could possibly be that is more important that that.
Along the way, I'd like to help as many people as much as I can, though what I may feel would help them may not be something all agree on, if you know what i mean.
The one thing I think is the most important would be to die happy. Being happy today won't really mean much if the last feeling I have is one of sorrow.
airavata 05-18-03, 09:16 AM i live to experience something new everyday.
Closet Philosopher 05-18-03, 10:47 AM I live for myself
I live for myself.
I live because I wanna find my way, a different way.
Just pointless ruminations. I've actually come up with something. By the way, this was a previous meaning--still applies really.
1. Control reality.
2. Know reality.
3. Have mastery of potential reality.
4. Have mastery of the abstract plane.
5. Exactly one conscious being exists for all time and space.

Clockwood 05-18-03, 10:13 PM Improving the world in some way that will be visible long after I am dead (even if nobody remembers my name)
My answer is simple:
I live to be alive.
I can't avoid death, i know that we all will die at some point. I don't belive in a afterlife, so this is all there is for me. I want to contribute as much as possible for as long as possible. I'm not a great man, the world won't end if i die. In the big picture I doubt I would be noticed or missed. But I know i still make a difference, even if it is a very small one.
I know i've changed the world in small ways. I've saved at least two lives, but that doesn't make me special in anyway. The people i've saved arn't important themselves. I might have saved the next Hitler. I might have lead to a family line that kills the next Einstien, or Gandi. But chances are, ive just made a few people happier for thier short stay on earth.
god-of-course 05-19-03, 10:23 AM I belive that by bettering myself i can help other people do the same. I belive that giving things to people or doing things for them is not the ultimate form of help, if we can learn skills ourself first, then we can teach them to others and they can pass there knoledge on and in effect we would be contributing to all of humaity or atleast it would be benificial to many. therefore development is, if only in a small way dependant on personal improvement, this is why i chose to devote my life to it as much as i can.
