Which game company do you consider 'the most interesting'? Is it Capcom, Konami, Westwood, Blizzard, or else...?

NaughtyDog.....they produce consistent critical and commercial hits. So does Neversoft....these two could be called Pixars of game production.

Konami also seems to have the most talented programmers and designers. Polyphony digital also has mastered PS2 to a art form now. Capcom is also a very high quality company along with namco and SquaresoftEnix.

My personal favourites would be Blizzard and Bullfrog.

However, I shake my fist at Electronic Arts Europe not because they have been bad at helping small games developers market their warez, but because they have taken down bullfrogs website @ www.bullfrog.co.uk and put their crumby corporate sitepage up.

(Bullfrog's site kicked Asse with it's floating frogspawn shockwave interface and pumping tunes you could choose from, so if you spot this EA, Get Bullfrog's site back up Please!, as they might be a company you've swallowed up but they still kick butt.)

Admittedly I like they from the days of Syndicate and the fact that the main carriers of the game programming back then programmed on Amiga's. It wasn't till they started programming Syndicate wars that they part way through decided to turn to programming on the PC and apparently had to recode what they had already done.

bullfrog created the game Theme park, a long tiem ago, I really loved that game :p

I think Blizzard has got to be the most interesting, they manage to not only stay afloat, but break sales records, over and over and over again, with a host only 3 franchises(starcraft, warcraft, diablo)

Like, there are so many companies out there working on a million different titles, and they always have something in the works, and that's pretty normal, but blizzard employees(as I am lead to believe from the occasional dev diary that is posted)spend all their time working to perfect one factor of this one title that they are working on :p

they have expanded somewhat, and now have as many as 3 titles in the pipeline at anytime, but still, quite amazing when you consider that they survive on just 3 franchises.

I read somewhere that there is a 4th franchise in the works, totally different than starcraft warcraft and diablo, or at least in a new universe.

About me myself:

1) I like Capcom for their Rockman series (the first ever game I like), and the series just go even more satisfying for me...
2) I like Konami for their Castlevania (later especially, not the former..), oh, perhaps I was so thrilled by quite many of Castlevania music, that lately I like instrumentals...
3) I like SNK for their King of Fighters (I joined a KOF group in Yahoo too)
4) misc, Nintendo-> little interest, Sega-> duh...,

5) I like Blizzard for their Starcraft (well, Warcraft is kinda similar, but the scenario making is easier in Starcraft)

and not many else

6) I actually don't like strategy games that much.... those Microsoft's Ages are not too nice for me... And Westwood's games are 'in-game-source-lacking'

Black Isle (Fallout Series) and Blizzard are great. At one time Origin was king (Ultima series), but they got bought by the evil empire EA. I hate EA, but one of favorites is done by Dice, Battlefield 1942, and EA is the publisher.

you mean EA is consuming 'not-so-popular' gaming companies?

Gee, that's scary....

Really not sure what you mean, UO is huge, Battlefield 1942 is huge, the Maxis games (Sims, SimCity, etc.) are all extremely popular. I actually quit playing UO because of all the changes EA put it, ruined the game for me. I played it for almost three years.

Sure id but what about Sierra? Do all of you not remember the most successful 1ps was Halflife. And to think id sold Sierra the source for Quake and sierra makes Halflife with it, I bet id was kick them self in the butt for that one, I hope they learned well and demonstrate so in Doom 3. Doom 3 though has graphic competition coming from Halflife 2, these two are going to be the most mind blowing 1ps engines ever!

As for tri-companies behind Unreal, HA they seem like they will be the underdogs in 1ps forever.

about Blizzard,

I think they need to recruit new 'storytellers'
Warcraft3 and its expansion are way too similar to Starcraft and BroodWar:
1) Starting from human (if you ignore the Warcraft tutorial campaign)
2) Then a hero of the human went 'berserk' (infested in Starcraft, undying in Warcraft)
3) Then we control the 'nasty-race'
4) Ignoring the orc in Warcraft, we'll proceed to the anti-nasty-race campaign (Night elf or Protoss)
5) The nasty-race's leader is destroyed, then we continue controlling the anti-nasty
6) Proceeding to a new human hero
7) The new human hero meet someone 'familiar'
8) Then we finally control the nasty-race again, ended by he death of one of the anti-nasty heroes

See?

Bullfrog also did Hi-Octane which when I was a wee nipper was my favourite game, one I could not stop playing.

But I absolutly adore Westwood Studios. The Command and Conquer series of games have got to be the best games out there. I love them. But I believe their worst mistake was selling out to EA. Can you believe that EA cancelled Renegade 2 when it was 80% complete!?! It was gonna be a FPS version of Red Alert. I'm gonna go cry
