Debt for 1945 (thank you WWII): $2.5 Trillion
GDP for 1945 $1.474 Trillion

Today Debt:$8 Trillion (ouch)
GDP for 2004 $10.980 Trillion

So if you look at it that way we are doing better ;) Though we need to cut it back big time

ww2 pulled us completly out of the depresion and led to the biggest
boom for any economy in any nation in all of recorded history.

not to mention we had the first surplus in us history in 2000,now we have the largest debt in us history.[not adjusted for inflation]

thats a huge turn around.
