That's why the zombies in Ultimate Versus are the best. Undead gun-toting, sword-weilding, kung-fu doing, yakuza zombies.

I already explained it. Their formed by a cancer-like virus called Solanum. It destroys the frontal lobes of the brain in the process of replicating. Smallest does is lethal, so there is no vaccine.

Description of the virus: "The guide attributes the zombie outbreaks described to a virus known as "Solanum". It is said to be neither water-borne nor airborne; the only means by which to become infected is through direct fluid contact, in which case the virus is 100% communicable with a 100% mortality rate. Solanum converts the brain of human victims into a specialized organ that needs no oxygen, water, or food to survive, and it renders body tissues toxic, significantly slowing the decomposition rate."

Thats a link to the website. Has plenty of info on the zombies.

    Yes on first

No on second the Zombies of the solanum virus cannot starve, suffocate, or drown. They only die via destruction of the brain. They do rot, but take much longer than a normal corpse.

the book says zombies can freeze solid, no offence but this would be a mayor limit to their lifespan as it's body would freeze locally forming knive like ice crystals in it's moving limbs and thawns the next day causing mayor gaps (water expands when it freezes) and then locally freezes again the next night.

It takes extreme temperatures to freeze them solid. Definately lower then 32 degrees. The area around 5-10 degress to freeze them solid. Basically around the same temperature where frostbite becomes a major threat. Generally the only places cold enough are that way most of the year. The zombies freeze solid, and are essentially put into a suspended animation mode for most of the year, until the summer thaws, which is the only time they can be killed, as snow usually covers them up, and their moans give away their position.

Its hard to describe. You'll have to read the books to get a better description. But it does freeze them solid because the "fluids" inside their body aren't kept warm anymore, so essentially all their semi-congealed blood freezes in the winter months. You need to well above the snow line to be safe. Northern Canada, Russia, Greenland, and Iceland, are safe, as are the extreme southern tips of continents, save Australia and Asia.

It replicates at an uncontrollable rate, and mutates the cells. Kind of like a cross between AIDS and cancer. At least viruses don't replicate so fast that they are lethal to their host. But cancers don't completly mutate cells like a virus can. Hence the term, a cancer-like virus.
