The thread in Art & Culture is about your "favorite song." "Your song" might be something different. I have dozens of favorite songs, any one of which might rule on a given day. But "my song" is "Me and Bobby McGee." It's my signature tune as a singer and it's the one that resonates with my spirit, even though it's been years since I put it on the turntable. It's a eulogy to the 1960s. It explains why they had to end. It was our national childhood. If it was up to the men, we'd still be out there getting high all the time, riding motorcycles, sleeping in crash pads, and tooling a few leather belts when we need money. But women grow up. It happens to them naturally, they have no choice. "One day near Salinas, Lord, I let her slip away, looking for the home I hope she'll find." Eventually you have to make a home or you can't have a woman.
This reminds me of the guy who lives downstairs from my best friend in Hollywood, he makes cool custom belts. The 60's and the 06's aren't completely different, but I know they are not the same - from what I've heard of the 60's.
My song? Guns n' Roses - Paradise City, seeing as it paints a perfect musical picture of what ROCK is all about, and is a song for all occasions. Ever. Even apocalyptica and world domination, and stuff....
