    The short list

    My favorites:

    Breakfast: Val's (Greenwood/Phinney Ridge, Seattle)
    Late-night: Beth's (Greenlake, Seattle)
    Fast-food: Wendy's (anywhere), Dick's (Seattle)
Fine dining: Metropolitan Grill (downtown Seattle)

The thing is that I eat at specific restaurants because I like them that much. Beth's is a Seattle landmark of sorts. Well, it's a dive but it's a great dive. You get crayons on request, and they tack up patron art on the walls.

Val's is a family-owned restaurant serving Greek-influenced food. However, their hash browns, bacon, and other breakfast treats are amazing. My egg-loving friends say the same.

Okay, I admit: I like Wendy's burgers. Don't know what it is about them, but they're good. Dick's is a Seattle institution; there's a few of them around town still. Real basic burgers, fries, and shakes for relatively cheap. Taco del Mar is also worth mentioning--great tacos & burritos. And Red Mill, repeatedly proclaimed Seattle's best burger.

And the Met ... most of my restaurant time is spent at Old Spaghetti Factory or El Ranchon or Outback Steakhouse or other such establishments. Or else pizza or a tavern. Okay, I eat out a lot, but ... whatever.

But the Metropolitan Grill is a steak house among steakhouses. If you're coming to Seattle for anything and like beef, this is a fine place to book a reservation for. They have an amazing wine cellar and bar, as well as a cigar captain. Be prepared to spend. But it really is worth it.

'Nuff said. For as much Italian as I cook, it's all a local thing you know, and besides--I still make the best alfredo I know of. It can't be bought at a restaurant. Thus, lots of people know Old Spaghetti Factory, and beyond that there's a few good ones in Seattle. Stella's (University District) is a good one. I would give a plug for the Afghan restaurant up the street, but I can't remember its name (I think it's just called "Kabul") and I've never eaten there.

    thanx,
    Tiassa

Steakhouse? Somewhere in south-east Asia (can't rememebr which country right now), I ate at a place with a truly ridiculous name like Wild Bill's Texas Steakhouse or something silly. I had the nicest, juiciest steak there. But I'm not sure it was from a cow. Meat in south-east Asia is a gamble.
