Well, it's apparently a real news story insofar as some major newspaper sites were covering it around August 20. But my own cursory search, conducted after I posted my earlier remarks, could only find a completely bungled unofficial transcript of a UNHRC meeting, according to one of the allegedly aggrieved parties (IHEU), and that didn't come close to making the point. No source I've found can give me even the name of the UN document. I'm left combing the UNHRC site, not even knowing what to look for.

I don't actually doubt that this story has some kernel of reality. Rather, I don't trust the context of these reports. As a leftist, I am very familiar with the nature of angry political rhetoric, and generally know how to read between the lines. Actually finding the official rule people are complaining about will help me figure out which of those intimations are correct.

There's no point in attempting a substantial reply to an insubstantial story. Nonetheless, it's an intriguing enough notion to nag for my attention. It's an accusation very nearly spectacular for its infamy, but without better substance, that's all it is.

 

It's down a rabbit-hole. I'm telling you. The signs are everywhere.

This story may also reveal a certain desperation on the part of islamophobes pushing it, in reaction to an emerging trend whereby a lot of people are overcoming their post-9/11 shock and ire, and discovering that they have been manipulated.
