I got a computer. Unfortunately, I forgot to check on the operating system on it when I ordered it. It's WinXP. Before I get on the internet and stuff, can you guys explain how to fix the holes and make it behave? I'd really like to go online without too many problems.

    it's easy, only 2 steps
    1. Get a firewall
    2. Get a virusscanner

That should get rid of most of the issues

    Furthermore.

Install XP on a seperate partition and save all the rest on other partitions (other then the XP partition), that way when XP takes a dive you only have to reinstall XP not all the other progs

I hope you have a high speed connection. Because you'll need to go to the Microsoft site and download all their patches.
