I don't understand how people can consider the PS2 superior to the XBOX.
Every interesting game the PS2 has, XBOX has it too. With the exception of GT4, and that's the reason why I'll get a PSP (and not a PS2 since it now is kind of obsolete)
But then, XBOX has Halo, Halo2, Ninja Gaiden, and Rallisport Challenge 2, which PS will never get.
Also, the XBOX has much better hardware, resulting in much better graphics and framerate. Just look at gaming websites. The XBOX version of multiplatform games always gets the best score (because of best visuals, and also the inclusion of custom soundtracks, online rankings, online multiplayer, etc.).
The XBOX controller is also much more adapted to todays games than the DualShock controller. Purists will say I am blasphemating, but consider the fact that apart from the thumbsticks, the DS has no analog input. The XBOX-S controller has two analog triggers that work incredibly well in racing games, and the ABXYWB buttons are all analog too, each with 256 levels of pressure. I never felt any strain, even when using it for more than 6 hours straight. Still, I admit that the PS2 controller LOOKS somewhat better.
For the DVD player issues, I never had one, and consider this as a fanboy argument. Also, when you consider all the disk read errors the PS2 get, I wouldn't bring this one into the debate.
Still, it is true that the DVD IR port taking a controller slot is a drawback.
Also, you have to pay 35$ (not 100$) for the DVD kit because every DVD player has to pay money to some DVD consortium. Microsoft simply chose to not making you pay for it if you don't use it. I'd rather pay for more power, especially, if I already have a dedicated DVD Player
And please note that the PS2 is basically the less powerful console of the threesome. XBOX being the best, followed by the NGC. People saying that the PS2 graphics rocks just didn't saw the other consoles in action.
XBOX Live is cheap at 5$/months, considering how good it is.
I totally agree with the fact that the best gaming machine is a PC. The problem here is that it costs waay more money.
I have a friend who bought a slim PS2 lately. When he came home to play Halo2 on Live, he felt like : "Oh, I'm gonna sell this boring thing and get myself an XBOX." He was not using his PS2 since three weeks.
Anyway, I guess it has to do with which games you want to play. But then again, XBOX has all the games most people would want to play.
Choose wisely, or get both
