The X-Files started sucking after the movie came out. There have been a couple good ones I have seen, but mostly I stopped watching it. It focuses too much on the whole shadow government conspiracy thing. It was so much better in the first few seasons when you could watch any one episode without having seen the previous ones, with only a loosely strung together Deep Throat source.

I agree. The writing has been blowing big time. I think shortly after the fourth season is when it started going downhill. I watch it now just for completion's sake. They should kill the thing and get it over with.

Any idea what this new show "Dark Angel" is about? I see teasers about it, and it looks interesting.

I blame two things: the movie deal and Duchovny's wife.

Movie deal: the Conspiracy was moving swiftly, but not dangerously so, from a writing standpoint. They were taking their time, but could have taken as much as they wanted, as far as I could care. I recall that it took a while to wrap up the movie deal originally, but it seems to me that once the season started, all eyes turned toward the summer movie release and the plotline began rapid collapse. I don't get what happened to the writing, but it became disjointed and rushed; the better episodes were often the random plots and even one or two of the gag shows. But the Conspiracy episodes pushed toward the movie plot, including one or two hard turns that shouldn't have been there. Okay, now I'm rambling. But that's my two cents ... uh, ten cents or so, on that.

    * Duchovny's wife: Isn't she the reason they moved production to LA? She wanted Davey at home? Oh ... that's right. The movie. Yeah, right.

I have to agree that Tea Leoni is to blame for the forced move. If they have a great, well-founded relationship, more power to them. I don't fault the actors or their choices. I blame the writers and Chris Carter for the show's downward spiral. They don't want to answer any questions. When my wrier friends and I get together and talk about things like this, I always say 'Give ME that damned show! I'll show you how to do it!' On a dare from one of them, I wrote a cross-over. They dared me to work Sonny Crockett and Ricardo Tubbs into an X-Files story. 300 pages later I dropped the manuscript onto the table at Starbuck's. It's now actually in Don Johnson's possession. It's going to be weird if he likes it. Unfortunately, the Cancer Man plays a pivotal role in the story. Hmmm... details, details...

Who's going to be Agent Scully's parther? That's if she's going to have one.

I think it will still be Mulder, he just won't be on screen as much. Voice-Overs are a tired actor's best friend.

What does everybody think of the eighth season and Scully's new partner John Doggett?

Okay, so far I like Doggett. USMC, former New York City PD, oh yeah. I can see old Smoky issuing thinly veiled threats to THIS guy!

    Imagine a Joe Pesci voice:
"I got yer government conspiracies right here!"

"The Truth has been out there so long nobody cares"

That is my word on the X-Files, X-files peaked long before the movie. I can remember 6 years ago when it started everybody was talking about it even non-scifi watchers. Nowerdays people just take the piss.

As for the new agent he used to play the T-1000 in T2. So I can gather from the six minutes I sat down to watch the episode, before switching to the test card

Angel seems like a promising series, she does kick ass I seen one of the episodes. It lacks plot at the moment but I could be wrong.

    John Dogget

I like the character of John Dogget. He's tough and practical, like I would imagine a New York cop to be. He's a good soldier when it comes to following orders, but he doesn't let it cloud his sense of judgement and justice. If the show goes completely down the toilet, it will be no fault of the character or Robert Patrick, the actor.

    Re: John Dogget

    I agree 100%

The X-Files is not as good as it used to be but I still like it. The best X-Files ever got was When Smoking Man was still around.

I have this photo of William B. Davis in his persona as the Cancer Man hanging in my office. I put it in a nice oak frame and attached a brass plaque to it that says "Our Founder".

I haven't watched the show for awhile now. Even the "Scully's baby" thing failed to get my attention. I liked the show when it focused on the conspiracies and the bizarre life forms/phenomena instead of on the personal dramas of the characters. It's become more like "Kolchak the Night Stalker Meets General Hospital".

Smoky and Krycek are my favorites, but I wouldn't want to see any spinoffs.

The show has really gone down hill, I still watch it on occasion but not as much as I used to. I remember watching the first few seasons and being excited because it was great! A very original concept and it wasn't boring and really made me question alot of things. But as soon as Dogget shows up I lost interest. Maybe another movie would do the trick to get me back into the show but other then that.....
