It would be nice to embed youtube or google videos in threads. They are becoming a more popular form of media and look nice embedded. There are a number of hacks out there that allow this without turning on html. http://www.theadminzone.com/forums/showthread.php?t=24296 Might even give you the edge over those "other" forums you have been speaking of...Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! Usually it is just a still image. It does not stream until clicked. Shouldn't slow down dial up users too much. An example of it running in a vbulletin environment. i am not worried about me, it's the dialup users that concern me about this matter. frankly i feel embedded video is a bad idea. what if every post on a page has embedded video? the admins disabled HTML code for a reason. here you are not even 50 posts and you want it, or something similar, reinstated. i say no to embedded video.
Embedded is great for a static website however in a forum I really wouldn't suggest it's use. The only time it might come in use is when perhaps you have a small .swf (FLASH file) thats animating for some purpose, but even then it's known that FLASH can be misused to obtain information etc, so it's best converted into a animated GIF (Which restrains it's size somewhat) If you want a full on media experience just follow a link from a Poster with 20+ posts.
While it's true that I only have a few posts, that does not change the merit of the idea. If you follow the link I posted above, you will notice that initially, only a still image is downloaded. The media does not stream until you click on it. It has no more overhead than an image. I don't mind following a link instead of an embedded video, but I think it looks nice and i would rather stay on this site than browse away. Please don't be swayed by my post count. Thoroughly consider the idea on it's merits and then your decision will be the best one. Please check the link I posted above as an example of what it will look like and judge how much it slows down your experience.
bubber dialup aside, the admins disabled HTML code because of recent exploits. i suggest the admins keep it as such.
I want to set up a webcam so you can see me type my posts on sciforums. Live streaming. I promise I won't wear much.
i would pay 5 euros a month for that. just so i could catch screenshots and make christmas cards out of them.
it's a deal. Please deposit this sum immediately on my nigerian business account so I can send another spam email around the world.
