Chin up. It hasn't happened yet. Not too sure it matters who is supposed to turn the big American ship around now, or what exactly, apart from repairing the reputation of a country that is supposed to be a champion of democracy and fair play, they might have up their sleeves - maybe pour more coal into the bunkers, as it were?
Japan? They are a laugh. They kill hundreds or thousands of brave men at Pearl Harbor and in the Pacific and then today they are trying to come off as "innocent and good". Not to mention their military is pure crap. I'd think it'd be China against Taiwan without US interference.
your forgetting the millions they killed in enslavement and conquest. Japan does not technically have a military anymore, it has a "self-defense force" although japan would like otherwise, I say let them, have them defend Taiwan while we sit back and watch the fireworks. Is someone does not interfere Taiwan got little chance.
Taiwan must be defended for ideological reasons. Taiwan is a thriving democracy, in a culturally Chinese country nonetheless, which goes to show that, contrary to many of the China apologists, democracy DOES complement Chinese culture. I've heard from people that the Chinese people don't want democracy, that they don't like democracy. Taiwan's very existence undermines their argument and gives hope to the mainland Chinese oppressed by their Communist government.
Also, Taiwan has a pretty good chance of withstanding an invasion at this point, although China is continuing to enhance their military capabilities. But Taiwan's military is efficient and powerful, as well as technologically superior to China's. But China has strength in numbers. Taiwan's military is outnumbered eight to one by the Chinese.
For what it's worth, the biggest thing the Taiwanese have to worry about is the hundreds of IRBMs that China could saturate the strait and bombard the island with.
I work with chinese co-workers, they would love to overthrow the communist government! China can't attack taiwan out of fear of starting a larger war and destroying their economy and causing the people to revolt, china can't give up on taiwan either as it my open them selfs up to revolt from the citizens that think "hey if taiwan get off the hook why not us?".
China can promise to leave Taiwan's government for another 40 years and yet sign a treaty to make one China. It worked for Hong Kong, why not Taiwan....Besides, China has been talking internally to split the party to two groups....but afraid, it will create a chaos...
Even the Taiwanese government agrees with that. It just wants the united China to be ruled by itself, not the Communist party.
Regardless, that is not the point. Taiwan is the property of the People's Republic of China. Nothing they do can change that.
why is it so funny the commies were the rebels. The government in taiwan is the legitimite government
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Republic_of_China taiwan is the legacy of chinese government not the commies
You don't understand, do you? Your facts are irrelevant. The current government of China PR is Communist. It doesn't matter if it wasn't in the 40's or what not. Right now it is. Right now they are in power, and Taiwan, being a nation founded by those who FLED to it rather than China PR being a nation founded by those fleeing from Taiwan, is the property of the communist government of China PR.
