So I'm sitting in the middle of Inland Empire, starting to get annoyed by the lack of any discernable continuity, and this pops into my head. Ah Nietzsche, give me a film that I enjoy and I can probably find an aphorism that fits it. I turn to my friend: "Without cruelty, there is no festival" "Cool, she's puking blood!" But this just encapsulates what Lynch does best: capturing the twisted heart of America. From the straight-up mindfuck that was Eraserhead, to the homage to the 50's in Blue Velvet, to the Hollywood films (Lost Highway, Mulholland Drive, and now Inland Empire) - and the Hollywood films really, best reveal the love in this vision. Dreams and paranoia, ephemeral bright lights, and always the viciousness of unknown and distorted people.
Geez, Xev, I don't remember you being this weird?? What's happened to you? ...haven't you gotten laid recently? Or what? Baron Max
Yeah, but ...sayin' what?? I can't understand that fuckin' jibberish that you posted. And from the number of responses, my guess is that no one else can either! When are ya' gonna' spit it out in good ol' plain, ordinary English? Baron Max
Drugs are no good for you, Xev. In fact, I've come to believe that anything other than meat, vegatables and clean water is a major part of what's wrong with humans in this world today. Baron Max
I blame Communism and premarital sex. Why haven't people in horror movies ever seen a horror movie? The exception being zombie movies - everyone in zombie movies knows to take headshots. What's up with that? All this said.... It's David Fracking Lynch! How am I supposed to be coherent?
