So...when do we tie the knot baby?

Well, I got married at 19 and that was 35 years ago. Wifey and I built our life and fortune together from nothing, investing and sacrificing our youth for a better future, and in the main we've had a good relationship. Sure we need our space, especially me and sure we've had our downs as well as our ups, but I wouldn't change anything. The single life might be fun while you're young, but as you grow older I think it's important to have someone that you know is going to stand by you and that you know is going to be there for you even when no one else is.
Life, being the bitch that it is could mean that even after umpteen years together, one could lose their partner to death at a critical time or age when you could really do with them, but if that happens, at least you'd have had a lifetime's worth of experiencing closeness, companionship, loyalty and love that you could never have enjoyed had you been single.
Oh dear lord, you're back and polling already..Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
To add to Spurious' list, all of which also apply to me:
I also have a child and a second on the way.
I own 2 cars.
I own my own home.
I have absolutely no debts.
I have a pool.
I have been on many holidays with my husband and my son when he was smaller.
I have 1 dog and 2 cats.
I have a TV, DVD and video, which i use and watch.
I own and use a microwave and fridge.
I own and use a BBQ.
There.. I think that about covers most of the polls you could possibly come up with.
Or just do what we did. We went on a holiday, didn't tell anyone about our plans and came back married. Only cost us the holiday we were planning on taking anyway. Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
Neither of us were into the whole church, white dress, tuxedo, formal reception kind of thing and all the extra's kind of thing. It was just the two of us and that was it, which is what it's meant to be about anyway.
My cousin's daughter recently got married and the whole wedding cost in excess of $20k.Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! $20k for 5 hours, and about 6 months of stress to the point of illness while planning. I personally find that to be insane and frankly stupid. That money could have been used to pay for a downpayment on a house. Now they are all broke, and my cousin is in debt up to her eyeballs and angry that some of us aren't willing to pay them off for her.. Had it been to help her daughter put a downpayment on a house, we'd have all helped, but $20k for what was in effect a big party, no way. To each their own I guess...

In Cyprus, it's traditional for the daughter's parents to pay for the wedding (if they can afford it), the upside, is that it's traditional for the guests to give money to the happy couple. As families, friends and acquaintances tend to be extensive, it's not unusual for the guest lists to run into hundreds and sonmetimes even thousands of people, hence, couples can walk away from the reception with 20k-50k in their pocket, which is a very nice way to start your marriage off. The parents of course are usually 10k-25k out of pocket, but they've had 20-25 years to prepare for the expense.
no because I am afraid of women taking advantage of me, such as faking their love and then calling sex a rape. Also marrying me and after 4 years divorcing under a pretense that I am a bad father. I do not need this sort of evil in my already complicated life.
You're a pretty smart young man! Stick to it and you won't be sorry, I promise you. Women cause nothing but problems for men ...all through life. And that's also true the other way 'round. Men and women should just enjoy their lives without making such major, life-altering committments. ...especially when they're so young.
now that you said that...it makes me feel like I am part of competition for women hunting...so after all I will be looking for a female to marry.
Why do you say that? I know several couples who've never married, yet they've enjoyed the same or similar happiness that you claim. They just don't have a little piece of paper from the government, that's all. And many more couples are beginning to see the advantages of "single-yet-committed" lives together ...with some even maintaining separate households.
Men and women cause nothing but problems for the other!
Woman hunting, sure. But why marry the bitch?
thats not how I see women. It is possible to be happy with a woman, but only if such a woman exists. And purpose is to have kids, sex, and happy family.
Okay, then you'll end up being just as fucked up as the rest of the people! Congratulations.
Fine! But why marry the bitch? Just keep her around to give you sex and to take care of the home and kids, etc, but don't marry her. That little piece of paper don't mean that there'll be peace and happiness and goodwill forever, ya' know?
Well I know this hot girl that wants to get married to you, sderenzi .and... oh you're banned?
Nevermind. Forget it.
I agree and have a tip to add: If you must marry, marry a foreigner, of type I did twice. First was Norwegian - they do not expect or get a diamond ring for engagement (Only a simple wedding band, which they wear, prior to marrage on one hand - I forget which, and then during the marriage cerimony, switch to the other hand.)
Second was a Brazilian - we had been living together for 13 years and when she need an operation, we decied to get married to avoid any "your not a relative" nonsense at hospital etc. The simple in the house cerimony with only family (including grand children) had us exchange simple gold bands. - The dinner afterwards costs more than the marrage did.
Too bad so few Americans can think rationally about the use of their limited money when starting out. I am rich now, but after a lifetime of being frugal etc, I have not changed my ways - doubt if I could, even if I wanted to.
In the words of Tyler Durden:
"We're a generation raised by women. Do you really think another woman is the solution?"
NO! because I am on my 3rd wife! and we just had our 9th anniversary.
The first 2 wives I wore out after 5 years each.
It's true the 3rd time is a charm.
But I assure you, it is much cheaper to keep her, so get the right one the first time!
P.S. life is a bitch, then you marry one.
Then you get divoriced and marry another bitch as if you didn't learn
_anything_ the first time
then you get divoriced again
And then you finally find the right one!
I don't know. Maybe. But with a marriage contract assuring complete seperation of property.
Not that I have much, but I value personal freedom greatly.
Yes if I meet the right man. No doubt about it, I want a traditional, old fashioned nuclear family. Of course no one can say if I will have it, but it's my long term (way long term...) goal.
Yea, I will probably keep looking for Ms. Right someday who can share some of the same basic interests that I have and visa versa. But right now, it's not a priority.
I don't plan to marry, and I will not reproduce because I live in a White people's country and I don't want to delute their gene pool by introducing Chinese genes.
