Rep. Anthony Weiner (D., N.Y.) is involved in a controversy regarding a lewd picture of a man's crotch sent to a young woman from his twitter account. Rep Wiener has been very evasive about the situation and says the Picture may or may not be of him.
Rep. Anthony Weiner, embroiled in a bizarre controversy over a lewd photo of a man’s crotch sent to a young woman from his Twitter account, said Wednesday it’s possible the photo is of him – though he insisted he didn’t
A day earlier, the New York Democrat and potential New York City mayoral candidate had sought to end the embarrassing episode by refusing to discuss it, at one point angrily calling one reporter a “jackass.’’

On Wednesday, he reversed course and spoke to NBC’s Luke Russert. He was expected to speak with CNN later in the day. The video is here.

“I was the victim of a prank,’’ Mr. Weiner told NBC, adding that he can’t say “with certitude’’ whether the photo shows his body.

The photo was sent Friday to the woman in such a way that the tens of thousands of Mr. Weiner’s Twitter followers could also see it
Meanwhile, the mother of the coed who received the photo is very upset
The furious mom of the Seattle college coed at the center of Weinergate yesterday demanded that the cocky congressman come clean about the lewd photo.

"I'm really upset. I feel like he's a person of power and influence, who can make a statement and make all this go away," Carol Mizuguchi said, blasting Rep. Anthony Weiner for his continued snarky sidestepping.

"As her mother, I'm really upset," Mizuguchi told The Post. "I'm pissed off at that."

Mizuguchi's 21-year-old daughter, Gennette Cordova, got the surprise package -- a close-up of an underwear-clad crotch -- over the weekend in a tweet from Weiner's account
His handling of this is terrible. He can't say whether or not the picture is of him? Are there multiple pictures of his crotch out there?

    He's a politician

Of course it is. He's a politician.

I think the signs point to two primary possibilities:

    • He's guilty of sending the photo, and simply lying to us.

    • His account really was hacked, hijacked, or used inappropriately by another person, but the explanation of how the photo and account access came to be will only further embarrass him.

My best guess in his defense would be that the photo is of him, but he did not send it himself. That still leaves plenty of exposure.

Part of me would not be surprised to learn that he has done something questionable—e.g., cheated on his wife, perhaps with a hooker—and walked into another of those bizarre right-wing stings, but presuming that would be getting ahead of the story.

It's also possible that he really, really is so damnably stupid. No matter how I try to frame this episode, the one required ingredient is that Rep. Weiner has done something rather quite astoundingly stupid.

This is a tempest in a teapot. It is not in any way germane to the national interest. There is no indication that Weiner is or has sent lurid pictures of himself in search of sexual partners as one of his Republican colleagues did recently.

Two, he has been married for less than a year. It just doesn't make a whole lot of sense. This picture and the claims with it are unsupported by fact. And they were tossed into public discourse by a discredited right wing blogger...a blogger who has previously been caught red handed editing tapes to create a false impression.
in order to support his false allegations.

Unless and until someone gets some credible evidence of wrong doing on the part of Congressman Weiner this is a tempest in a teapot and a complete waste of time.

It's the congressman's own actions that are keeping this story alive. His evasive non answers to specific questions, his apparent uncertainty regarding whether the picture is of his crotch or someone else's, and now he's called the police on a reporter . . This all makes him look guilty as hell.
  11. joepistole Deacon Blues Valued Senior Member

Actually it is the silly reporters trying to spice up their ratings who are keeping the story alive. And acting guilty does not mean one is guilty.

    This and That

    • • •

    It's a macabre spectacle.

Neither was Rep. Lee. I don't know, as the GOP about that. But come on, Rep. Wiener isn't helping himself at all in this.

You know, in the end, that is actually kind of beside the point, Joe.

Just work with me here: Even granting him every benefit of the doubt, there isn't much for a sane explanation of how he has handled the issue.

A politician as smoothly refined as Wiener suddenly rendered incoherent by a stupid accusation he is completely innocent of? In that case, he should have just said, "I'm sorry, I have no idea what you're talking about," and shut the hell up. The man's foot is looking at his mouth and begging for gun control.

According to a fairly narrow and supportive set of presuppositions about his personality and private life. Other than that, the two sentences in the above quote have no functional relationship to one another.

Setting aside the actual facts, that a picture sent through his Twitter account has spun him into complete disorientation, I would simply remind that, be that lack of support as it may, Wiener is burying himself.

No, really, this reminds me of an episode of Dick Van Dyke when Rob had a cold during one of Laura's dinner parties for business associates, and he ended up mixing highballs with some serious cough syrup. That the Charades answer was "digging one's own grave" only magnifies the joke.

Okay, now ... let us presume for the moment that in this point is the answer to the picture itself. Now, then, why the hell is Wiener handling the episode so poorly? That is the big question.

But as the political circus goes, the Congressman is putting on one of the best sideshows in Washington. It's astounding. I mean, at this point I'm starting to wonder—If he's not guilty having done something so stupid as to send a cock shot via Twitter, what does who have on him that he's taking this ugly, awkward dive?

I mean, really. He's making this a hell of a lot harder on himself than he has to, and that, in itself, makes no sense at all.

Right now it might seem a tempest in a teapot, but Rep. Wiener's behavior in response to this scandal makes me wonder if maybe, just maybe, it's the tip of an iceberg to blow all our minds.

Or maybe the Illuminati just got to him.
  13. joepistole Deacon Blues Valued Senior Member

Yeah, maybe the Illuminati got to him. The fact is there is no proof of wrong doing at this point...only allegations from a spurious source.

While the good congressman may be acting guilty, it does not mean that he is guilty of the accusations made by the previously discredited source for this story.

Assume for a minute the picture in question is of the congressman, so what? How many people, women in particular, have pictures of themselves in their undergarments? There is a whole industry devoted to taking pictures of people in their undergarments for personal entertainment. Go to almost any major mall and you will likely find a store taking lingerie pictures. And there is no crime in it.

Additionally there is no proof the congressman has cheated on his wife. As previously pointed out, they have not been married for even a year. So the window for fortification is narrow. And the recipient of the photo has stated there has not been a personal relationship with Weiner. Nor is it likely that there has been a personal relationship as she lives more than 2k miles away from Weiner. It is entirely possible, assuming the picture is of the congressman, it is a relic of his single days. The again it could be something he did for his spouse since she travels frequently with the Secretary of State.

And finally this congressman has not run for office on the right wing Christian morality plank. In fact, he isn't even a Christian. So while he may be feeling embarrassed that a personal intimate picture was released, assuming it is he in the picture, it is no proof of wrong doing on Weiner's part.

And in the end, who cares? Weiner is not guilty of hypocrisy, assuming the pictures are his. Weiner never ran on a morality plank as have the numerous Republicans who have been proven to have conducted themselves in a manner not consistent with their rhetoric.

As previously stated, this is a meaningless tempest in a teapot...a complete waste of time.

    Just ... just ... stop

Joe, look, it's me. Hello? Remember me? You know exactly where I stand on these issues. I really don't give a damn if Rep. Weiner is plowing a whorehouse. But the sheer idiocy of how he's handling this thing erases all of that.

Again: Even granting him every benefit of the doubt, there isn't much for a sane explanation of how he has handled the issue.

I think I will enjoy this greatly if the whole thing turns out to be another conservative sting fraud like the ACORN bit, but given the severity of that kind of charge—as it would involve multiple crimes—I also think I'm going to have to wait for that part to emerge of its own. And if that is the case, it will.

Which raises another interesting consideration: the private investigator. Most seem to presume Weiner would only hire a PI instead of going through law enforcement in order to filter his guilt. And this is sort of true, but not necessarily so literally. It could be that, as experts go through to check all the IP addresses accessing his accounts in order to determine if and when Weiner's Twitter was hacked (which phrase, in itself, sounds dirty) he just doesn't want the rest of his habits on the public record. I mean, would you really want the public record revealing that you're into high-heel porn, or watersports, or even men? It's really nobody's business, and the best presumption I can give Weiner in this case is that there are other issues in his private life that I, personally, wouldn't say anything about, but the public would. It doesn't have to be illegal in order to be embarrassing.

Still, though, even in that case, his best route would have just been to shut the hell up from the outset. Weiner has followed a course of which we might say anything would have been better.

Certes, some prudes might well remember this incident for the talk of Weiner's winky, but what I will likely remember of this scandal is that the congressman has given us a virtual textbook for how not to handle these sorts of things. Just on those grounds alone, the New York wunderkind, who has done an excellent job politicking his way through the Tea Party and GOP sideshows, has called his fitness for office into question. The voters, obviously, will have their say next year, but even more than the cockshot allegations, what they will likely remember is the deer-in-the-headlights performance Weiner has put on so far.

Even if it's a vast right-wing conspiracy, Weiner has done more damage to himself than they ever could with this.

As such, even if I grant you the plot details, the thematic resolution is still an unforgettable disaster.

Most likely he didnt send the picture. I dont know anything about Weiner (think he is a congressman or something), just heard about this on the radio the other day. Nothing to gain by sending it, it isnt really normal for a person to send a pic like that to someone you are not personally involved with. Sure people do these things but these people dont have anything or much to loose either. Like a gardener, a produce salesman etc.
  16. joepistole Deacon Blues Valued Senior Member

I think how much of a disaster it is remains to be seen. As I previously said, Weiner is acting like it is his picture. But he has denied vehemently sending it to the woman on the other coast.

Time will ultimately tell how big an issue this ultimately becomes - no pun intended. But thus far I see nothing to get upset about. And if the early polling by the Daily Beast is any indication, it appears most New Yorkers would agree.

Unless something else happens, I think this will eventually fade from the headlines.
  17. John99 Banned Banned

Well you would have to be pretty stupid to do something like that for one. Even though you see underwear crothces in the catalog.
  18. joepistole Deacon Blues Valued Senior Member

Powerful people sometimes really do stupid things...not that this is the case with Weiner. I think sometimes powerful folks start believing their press and get a little divorced from reality.
  19. John99 Banned Banned

Everyone does stupid things but this is serves no purpose but lessen the chance of winning anymore elections (if true) and even if you want to have an affair with someone do you send a picture of your crotch to them especially if you hardly or in this case really dont know them...especially if "Twitter" is involved? We can say what we want about politicians but they really dont get there by being stupid. This would require a very low IQ because like i said it wont help anything and can only hurt and he has to have the presence of mind to know that. I cant be sure but just using common sense.
  20. madanthonywayne Morning in America Registered Senior Member

And, so long as they're Democrats, you'll be there to defend them.

It's hard to believe that at this point you still won't even go so far as to say the good rep Wiener did something stupid. As Tiassa pointed out, whatever the facts of this case turn out to be, Rep Wiener's handling of the situation has been terrible and in and of itself amounts to "something stupid".
  21. joepistole Deacon Blues Valued Senior Member

You are right, I will be there to defend the truth.

It is telling that you think the truth is defending Weiner. I merely pointed out that Weiner (Democrat) has been accused of some pretty nasty stuff by a Republican partisan known for faking data in order to create false smears against innocent folk. Additionally, this "source" has no proof of his many claims against Weiner and has yet to provide any real evidence of his claims. If you have any proof otherwise, now is the time to show it.

Much has been made of Weiner's refusal do deny or accept ownership of the photo in question. And I have said and will say again, that his ownership of the photo is really not germane or important. Who the hell cares besides some right wingers who are trying to distract the nation from important issues of the state? If Weiner's constituents don't care (which appears to be the case if you believe previously posted polling results) then why should anyone else care?

As for Weiner's handling of this issue, again if you are not one of his constituents, why should anyone care? If indeed it is Weiner's photo I can see why he would be embarrassed and want to avoid the issue. But as previously stated, I see nothing wrong with such material/photos if they are used privately. It is not uncommon, nor is it illegal or immoral. What Weiner does in his bedroom is none of my business nor yours. What is important is that Weiner has denied any wrongful behavior and his spurious partisan accuser has no proof of wrongful behavior by Weiner.

And unless evidence to the contrary is produced, this is just a tempest in a teapot.

Honestly who takes pictures of their junk??? Also why should we care, these are things I don't want to hear about, its bad enough that other senator was having airport bathroom gay sex in my home city.

I thought it was hilarious . We have a Wiener in our city council. He pronounces his name Wine-r instead of Weener. It don't matter for he lives up to both . Any given night you can find him stumbling home from one of the local pubs . That is the rumor anyway . We thought about camping out side his favorite watering hole with a camera. Na to much trouble . He is going to run for Mayor . Whoopty f-ck if he gets elected . Never know in Missoula . This is like Progressive central . Test city is what I heard and I believe it with the likes of Rodger Maler running around making sure O.P.G. tightens the screws on non compliant homes. We pass laws here in Missoula so big blocks of Houses become code violations . To bad for the f--ckers that don't have the money to bring there houses up to code . God for bid they decide to add on a bedroom or something . People actually think they own there house . Jokes on them . They should of read the deed of trust before signing then they would of known they signed away there right of protest . Well so far eminent domain has not been utilized , but the State government made sure to put into place tools so it can be done , not just to build a road either . The way it reads is " For the public Good " Some communities think building a Strip Mall is good for the public . How bout any of you ? You think that is good policy? Oh F--ck Me oh dear when will the madness end ? O.K. go do your social responsibility now and get Photo Voltaics put on your house . We passed the Green Build Code of all Codes in Montana . Yeah first state to adopt the new code . It is a great thing . To bad no one has the money to do it . There are a few deductions you can take on your taxes I think , unless the Tea Party Officials strip that away .

O.K. way off track Wieners are wieners no matter how you eat a wiener . Wieners are bad . They spit goo out of em
