Why would Plato kick poets out of his Republic?

"Beware of the poets." said Plato in The Republic.
I was wondering why poets (and artists in general) didn't have place in his ideal state? Is this some sort of poet/philosopher rivalry or something else?

Because in Hellenistic tradition, it is poets who start wars. The Trojan war comes to mind.
