    Because we are desperate and we want to be happy.
    The desperation then drives us into doing all sorts of crazy things.

    Granted, often, we are not even aware that it is desperation at work, we "just feel the urge".

    How to stop this? Find new ways to be happy, ways that don't include doing things that can right there or later on bring you misery.

    'Evil' and 'dark' are subjective terms. They don't objectively exist. If you want some real answers, you have to examine specific behaviors you object to.
