For example, of a poem about a spoiled young person I don't mean to have a go at the thread starter but this does seem to imply that all teenagers are spoiled asses. Some teenagers are unarguably spoiled asses. Some black people are also criminals, but if you made a joke which implied that all black men and women were criminals, people would hand you your intestines and rightly so. Also: Why is it that when adults complain about something, they're right, when young people do they're whining? I've noticed on several other forums such as the Guardian discussion boards, that if it's an adult complaining about their teenager, everyone sympathises and goes on about how vile all young people are, if it's a young person complaining about their parents, everyone calls them a spoiled brat, even if they're actually being reasonable. I can hear your counter argument already...'But young people should be grateful...they get fed, clothed, sent to school, etc.' But you could equally say to someone complaining about their teen who blasts music too loud/wants mouth piercings/refuses to fit in: 'Stop whining. He's healthy, isn't he? He could have gone to Iraq and gotten his head shot off or died from leukemia aged 6 or something..' This would be an equally legitimate thing to say, but since adults have the social status, they get to decide who has a legitimate complaint and who gets told to shut up. Discuss?
