    Intellectually dishonest is apparently the "oh my god! no he didn't!" put down of sciforums. How silly. That's like accusing a coyote of being a "meat eating carnivore". People lie to themselves. All the time. They then transpose those lies onto the world, thus we all toss about some joyous intellectual dishonesty. It's easy to be an egotist when you are faceless.

    I like Sam because I think she could outargue me about whether an orange was more like a side of beef or a lump of molybdenum. She's smarter than me, and I like people who are smarter than I am. You never know who might be secretly planning to take over the world, but it can't hurt to support those who seem most capable.

    It's probably not so annoying when she is smarter than you. When she isn't, it's annoying, you succinctly explain to her that an orange is not like a side of beef, and then she'll ignorantly and dishonestly weasel around and play dumb and be dismissive and vague and distant to avoid admitting defeat, even though she knows you're right. That's intellectual dishonesty. Just because you don't know what it means doesn't make it an invalid criticism.
