Why do some links fail to acknowledge login?

Sometimes when linking to a Sciforums page, the system (A) displays a page in which the user is not logged in, and (B) cannot seem to find its own pages. This makes it more difficult to post reference links, as the links don't go where referred.

This link↗ should lead to a particular discussion in my profile posts; when I click it, I see my profile posts page, starting at the beginning, and I have the option of logging into Sciforums.

    Why is this?

And since it is likely in the CSS, we might also ask why full-length links will launch "target=_blank", but the shortlinks won't? This is actually a waste of bandwidth, in addition to being disruptive. Then again, I'm accustomed to simply right-clicking and opening in new tabs or windows because so many sites on the internet are so happy to tell you to go away.

And while we're at it, why does 'Show All' Alerts give you one alert per page? I had 15 alerts recently. They were spread out over 15 pages.
