According to my neurobiology studies. The brain has something called mirror cells that activate whenever they see someone doing something. They are the same cells that activate when you are actually doing that something. Like seeing someone kiss and wished someone was kissing you or watching people eat and then become hungry. Because these cells fire the brain might actually be tricking itself into thinking that you are in fact experiencing something and release certain neurotransmitters for no reason. I believe this is why people are aroused by watching other people have sex. Although male and female brains are different in development I don't know if there is a sex difference.
