Why did the Nazis choose to scapegoat the Jews?

Yet the way they look upon it is that God continues to punish them because, as his Chosen People, they continue to not prove themselves worthy of that love. "Tough love," to use the currently fashionable psychobabble. It's all one long continous chain of events: The Exile in Egypt, the destruction of the Temple over and over again, the conquest by the Romans, the persecution by Europe's Christians, the Holocaust, and now the standoff in the Middle East. Jewish religion, Jewish culture and Jewish people are really big on guilt, and as far as they're concerned, from a cosmic perspective this is all their own fault for not being good enough to live up to God's expectations. The American Christian interpretation of the "Chosen People" identity is not really in alignment with the Jewish interpretation. American Christians think the Jews have a right to expect more of God; Jews think God expects more of them.
Yeah but Americans aren't as simple as you give us credit for. We have a lot of guilt over slavery and our dismal failure to truly "integrate" our black citizens 140 years after Emancipation--notice that in every other country in the New World people come in different shades of brown but here we're still black and white. We're making up for that by lavishing the love on the Jews that they never got in Europe. And this is strictly our assumption of Europe's guilt after WWII. Jews were of course never persecuted in America like they were over there, but still there was tangible discrimination: There were entire real estate developments in which the deed to every home included a "covenant" that it could never be legally sold to a Jew. What really cinched our attitude toward the Jews was the politics of the Cold War. The creation of modern Israel, the final and most colossally ignorant act of the British colonial dynasty, turned the Middle East--Russia's back yard--into a chessboard. Suddenly the Muslim people were the Red pieces and the Israelis were the Red White & Blue pieces in a game that reshaped the entire region. America and Americans had to love Israel and Jews because they were our bulwark against those nasty Russkies. We even had to let them become a nuclear power.
    It's all politics.
While Europe's Christianity mired it in the thousand years of ignorance and squalor known as the Dark Ages (spare me the apologia, sure there was a little progress but Europe really was an absolute shit-hole during that time with undrinkable water, streets that were cleaned once a year by a herd of pigs and people who believed bathing was a sin), Judaism with its profound respect for education and scholarship elevated its people to a level of civilization that matched the best of China, India and the Ottomans. They have a thousand-year head start on the children of Christendom so naturally they know how to run businesses, banks, universities, theaters and newspapers better than we do. Duh! And the most elementary personal and public hygiene practices made their ghettoes relatively immune to all the Plagues, which of course endeared them to their Christian neighbors all the more.
Nor in China. They were treated so well there that they completely assimilated and vanished as a distinct community. They're very close to that in today's India. The greatest fear of the most conservative Jewish leaders in America is that the same thing will happen here. And it is. I'd say 90% of the people I know of Jewish ancestry are married to goyim and lead fully secular lives.
See my previous comment. They had an extra thousand years of training and practice... and attitude! It has become a stereotype that every Jewish parent assumes that their children will grow up to be doctors and lawyers. If they merely turn out to be really prosperous businessmen or famous scientists, that is okay, but nothing to brag about.
It's been a different kind of problem. When the practice of Affirmative Discrimination was initiated in California, the politically correct leaders divided us into only two ethnic groups: Non-Hispanic White, and Everybody Else. Before long they found that Asian-Americans were getting the most benefit from the program and becoming way overrepresented in universities. They had the same cultural benefits as the Jews: a rich tradition of honoring education and children who were simply not allowed to do poorly in school. It was a real dilemma which is still being grappled with and is a major factor in the steady abolition of "white anti-white racism."
The Christian community maintained a focus on the afterlife and therefore didn't bother to understand how civilization worked. They could not grasp the concept of "capital," a way of storing and managing surplus wealth to accelerate the growth of prosperity that was one of the hallmarks of civilization. Instead they hung onto a definition of "usury," from the Bronze Age in which there wasn't very much surplus wealth, that prohibited investment and therefore encouraged the dissipation of capital on consumption and waste. Judaism was a much older and more mature religion and--like Confucianism--was and is very much of this world, not the next one. (Jews spend very little time thinking about heaven, and if they think about it at all it's something they might achieve after being dead and buried for thousands or millions of years, if God ever forgives them.

) Jews observed and studied the ways of civilization and realized the importance of capital management, and by default the job of banking fell to them. Islam has tracked very closely at 600 years behind Christianity and there are still large pockets of conservative Islam where investing money, i.e. lending it at interest, is considered a sin. Islam today is still very much a religion of the next world, and BTW in a nutshell that is the essence of the unbridgeable gap between Jews and Muslims.
Hehe. And after about fifty years of Global Warming, the ethnic group comprised of the Eskimos in Greenland and Canada, to the Aleuts in Alaska, to the many tribes of northern Siberia, all the way to the Saami ("Lapps") are going to find themselves in possession of Earth's Bread Basket. What goes around comes around, but not necessarily back to the same people.

    Great post Fraggle, BTW.

There is one other reason that hasn't been mentioned here. The Nazi's needed to buy the good will of the German people with social programs financed by confiscated Jewish wealth as well as scare them into not voicing dissent. After they used up the money stolen from Jews they had to confiscate further wealth from abroad.

A documentary on the History Channel showed Hitler was friends with the Jews when he was a painted and would drink with them and discuss things with them. They bought his paintings.

There has been persecution of the Jews before the Romans tried to wipe them out, twice. What is it about the Jews that inspired such hatred in others? Certainly not just people who owed them money.

If the bible is to be believed, the Jews certainly did their share of mass murders, even of children. The oldest racist word is Jewish. Gentiles.
