Who's the ugly astronaut shown at the opening credits of 'Enterprise'?

    I feel physically repelled by the site of him. No, he's not the worst looking person I've ever seen, but there's something utterly repulsive about him. I just get this incredible urge to smash his face in.

    Anyway, rant over; is he a real astronaut, or just someone plucked from the public at random?

    His name is Virgil "Gus" Grissom. He was killed in the Apollo 1 tragedy. The capsule he was in caught fire on the launch pad during a test run and killed him and two other astronauts.
