If you're considering that, a karma system would be more useful. It would allow people to choose their own signal to noise ratio.
A likes button I posted a thread about this a while ago! http://www.sciforums.com/showthread.php?121228-A-likes-button Give us a like button!
They use it at http://www.thescienceforum.com/ That forum does have more active members than this one does and I never noticed any more or less problems. The LIKE button really doesn't bother anyone. In any event I never heard of anyone complaining about it. The one thing I liked about it, is I could let someone know I liked what they said without making any reply. That does a couple of things I like, it lets members know you've followed their replies without you having to make a reply yourself and it also tells the member you like what they are saying. There are others that don't use it and no one seems to care one way or the other.
That remains to be seen, Facebook is huge, im sure a lot of interesting new members will join. (We need more low level minions to assimilate into the collective and more high profile intelligence to support our well thought out theories in revolutionary science. Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! Does it cost? I thought it was a free service? I want to be able to repost all my supersmart posts on Facebook and like others supersmart posts and show all my "normal" friends what type of cool people I hang out with while they are busy folding laundry in the raunchy suburbs. Please, can I havs it, plz? :thankyou:
The "cost" being the intellectual integrity and overall fabric of this site collapsing under the strain of the droves of imbeciles migrating to this sight and turning it into a social network nightmare! Have you seen the type of people that open network sights attract? I can imagine it now. *shudders* .
You have a wild imagination. I guarantee nothing like that will ever happen. The other SF I mentioned uses the same software as this place, and they have a chatbox at the top of the topics listing that gets used a lot. Also, like this SF they have a very solid core of knowledgeable posters. I'm not really trying to sell that SF, but it does serve to set an example that's hard to argue with.
