isn't body hair there for a reason anyway?

    under arm hair......to catch sweat.
pubic hair.....to keep the private areas free from sweat

but why is it that some women get facial hair and others don't?

The Egyptians would shave every inch of body hair off their body - including genital, head, and eyebrows.

    Men and women alike.

Islam also suggests that we shave most of our body hair off. Suggests, but does not demand. Muhammad shaved his ball hair and said everyone else should consider it too.

Why did we (hairless apes) lose our body hair in the first place?

And, why doesn't anyone just ask the question on everyone's mind... Stop beating around the bush (pun intended) - how many of you ladies shave it all off?

    Seriously...

I used to til our daughter was born. Then my husband asked me not to. He said he felt like a pedophile.

    *sigh*

I don't understand why people want to go there with that argument. Pubic hair is a lot like curry. A little goes a long way. If somebody associates a lack of it with something deviant, to me it speaks more about that person than the concept of trimming the hedges.

So your husband didn't feel that way until you had children? I don't see the connection, but it's not a big deal either way.

I remember seeing michael moore ranting about this on an episode of aweful truth years ago.

Yeah a lot is promoted by razor companies but it goes way back as people have mentioned. The sandpaper thing predates ww2, I have heard of abrasion hair removal in roman times. I think it's a phenomena that probably existed way before egyptian times.

anytime I look at ancient paintings of women I never see them drawn with any hair. Maybe hairy women, or hair (because I don't see many men with hair either asides from facial hair in paintings either) in general was culturally regarded as aesthetically not very pleasing even during the Greek and Roman times? And the negative vibe against hair still exists until today.

I could see how being almost hairless is one of those few distinct traits that separates us from other mammals and primates. Maybe we just don't generally like the idea of hair in the first place because its not really us?

Would you mind showing ANY ancient paintings where male body hair is shown neck below???? The resolution simply just wasn't there...

Suppose I could post a picture on here of a voluptuous woman in the nude. She's got the classic Betty Grable figure and a modest amount of fluff down there.

The predictable response from the sciforums perv squad would be "i'd hit it" and ten pages debating how hittable she was.

Now suppose I cropped that same photo to illustrate a shaved vajayjay. I just don't think the responses would immediately turn into "oh noeeesss! I can see her vagoo! She looks like a ten year old boy..."

I mean, sure, you'd have some that would change their tune and talk about how that's not really their preference, but simply grooming one's self down there doesn't turn Betty Grable into Shirley Temple. No more than Arnold Schwarzenneger (sp?) with his chest shaved in practically every movie he ever made turned him into Fred Savage circa 1988.

    That's all I'm sayin

shaved reminds my husband too much of a little girl, especially now that he has one. He also finds it creepy when guys say "who's your daddy" as they have sex. He's also not too keen on the 'naughty school girl in uniform' look.

Agreed on the daddy thing. Just weird as hell.

But anyway, I have a daughter too, and I never would have made the connection your husband did. It's not something I ponder when I'm nekkid.

It's more of a function thing then a visual thing for me. I mean, after 15 years I'm not a stickler for leaving the light on anyway. Still, less hair makes my job easier.

It started at a time when people were more conscious of their appearance. I dont mind women with hairy armpits as much as hairy legs.
