What is special about special relativity ?

    That's the thing about Special Relativity, it treats everyone the same, ie as not being special

    I am learning that it is "special" because it deals with the relationships between a special class of observers ;observers that can only move wrt each other in such a way as to involve no acceleration.

    In the theory of General Relativity that restriction is lifted.
