    Science is an empirical method applied to an object of study. To put it roughly, science is experiment (in the very broad understanding of the word). Empirical method doesn't guarantee understanding though (if it's even possible), it just fits the world around us to our brain capacity. Another analogy, science is an engineering equation, it predicts behavior of certain parameter just good enough, but explains little or nothing.
