Just watched The Proposition: an incredibly brutal Western scripted by the multi-talented Nick Cave (and yes, Bad Seeds fans - it has his pawmarks all over it). Possibly the best western I've ever seen (though Unforgiven is not without its charms either).

Edward Scissorhands is excellent. As Winona Ryder is ravishing.

I can't understand why so many like Gladiator.
    It's a pseudo-authentic, mediocre hollywood thriller.

That was actually a good movie, but for some reason a lot of people don't think so.

The story of the underdog is always appreciated.

Most people don't know enough to distinguish any reality about the historical accuracies of the film.

    Are you European?
It must be in the blood of an American to enjoy action properly.

Yes, Gladiator was pretty crap, and I am an American who enjoys a good action film, but that was neither good, nor action.

Ben Hur. Now -that's- a Roman epic.

    Spartacus, Cleopatra...

Old school Hollywood knew how to do Roman stuff.

Cleopatra is one of my dad's favorites actually (along with most Hollywood Roman epics).

Spartacus was indeed a classic. Gladiator stole so much from it...

Hmm, I'm not too into Westerns but a couple people recommended that movie to me. I guess I'll have to check it out now.

    My favorites:

The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly
    Starship Troopers
Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan

Really liked that when I was young.

Yeah, The Nothing that that hound.. now those were things to get scared about! No other movie creatures or fear was as bad as those two when I was young. The storm when the kid is reading the book and all, very atmospheric and emerges you into the movie getting more eerily freaked out by em.

I'm no great fan of them either. I like Clint Eastwood and quite like Spaghetti Westerns but they're all a bit dated. 'Unforgiven' is brilliant though and, like I said, 'The Proposition' is possibly even better. You definitely don't need to be a Western fan to enjoy that one.

    Best line:

<Incredibly evil outlaw cackling with malice> "Hee hee - this one's pissed himself!"

I do like unforgiven, high plains drifter, Pale rider and The Beguiled.
This proposition movie would have to be pretty good to make up for it's lack of eastwood.

    Exhumed, Neildo:

Yep. The Never Ending Story was truly great on so many levels. One of the best of fantasy movies ever done. I'd also add its sequel to that list, but I once had the displeasure of seeing the third movie, which was completely and utterly horrific.
