We should be able to block trolling moderators?

ToF, you may have already thought of this, but have you talked to Porfiry about your problem? To me, the answer to an allegedly trolling mod isn't to put them on your ignore list, per se – rather, it's to talk to their superior about your concerns.

Ta, I'm not all that bothered really, just was really pissed off when I found I couldn't place my troll on ignore though I understand why mods aren't ignored. Rest of mods don't troll, so I guess its pointless excercise anyway

That is bass ackwards! I too have been frustrated by being unable to Ingore a specifc mod. [Not because (s)he was trolling, simply because (s)he is an idiot.] Ignoring them should be possible, but pm's should be definitely be an option available to the mods.

TofR, I too should be interested in a specific example of (Q) trolling you. Not saying it hasn't occured, just wondering if it may be coincidence. The weasel Vallich persitently accused me of stalking him, simply because I was reading some of the same threads he was and calling him on the inane claptrap he specialised in at that time. Might it be something of the same here? [Not that I'm saying you indulge in innane claptrap.

In this thread, his first response to your OP question was met with immediate profanity from yourself. Some very exchange occurred between you both in which (Q) raised some valid points. A few post later, you derided his "tiny fish bowl of experience" apparently for the only reason that you disagree with him. It wasn't until your derision of (Q) in that post that he finally responded with you're "a complete idiot."

For the record, I disagree with (Q) on that point. I would characterize you as a very incomplete idiot. The evidence suggests that (Q) has little to no interest in you (perhaps this is what's unsettling) and replies to the more stupid things you say in the same manner he replies to other significance-junkies and mystery-mongers (which includes theists like yourself).

From what *I've* seen in the threads you've started, it is *you* that is stalking (Q). Unfortunately for him, he also cannot put you on ignore.

Kooks are always posting nonsense on science boards then complaining of unfair moderation practices by the moderators when their nonsense is called, ridiculed or simply deleted. Duendy does it, Norval used to do it, etc.

Regardless of the apparent conflict between (Q) and ToR, I'm inclined to agree that one should be able to place a mod on their ignore list, just as one can put anyone else on it. I don't see how it would undermine their authority. Furthermore, it's possible to opt to read a post made by someone you're ignoring. So if they end up getting banned, they should be smart enough to opt to read the post that explains why. After all, not seeing the warning post isn't considered an excuse by the mods (I assume).

I'm guessing, however, that it's some sort of limitation of the software used for this forum, in which case it would be tough to do anything about it.

LOL! That's some funny shit. Moderating is perhaps the easiest task in the world, right down their with 'Unzipping your fly', and 'Tying your shoelaces'. I was a moderator at IIDB once, and the mods did absolutely jackshit. Just delete undesirable posts/paragraphs, which took a grand total of 1 minute and 3 mouse clicks.

 

Why else, pray tell, do we have an open government forum and a site feedback forum? Are we not supposed to give our feedback? Are we not supposed to tell the SF 'government' what we think it's doing wrong and what we think will make things better here for everyone?

My point exactly, I am still waiting for a modertator to say if its possible to modify the site to allow us to ignore them on threads they do not moderate.

I see the bigger picture. I see a whole world wide web out there, and plenty of other sites you are free to frequent if you don't like this one.

As to 'why can't we ignore trolling mods', well, so far you have failed to establish that a mod is trolling, and as to the ignore part, well you just can't. Have the composure and serentity to accept that, and quit whining.
