In this classic Philip K Dick shortstory, a man purchases a fake vacation and given false memory implants. During the operation they discover hidden memories of the man being a secret agent. What fascinates me is the notion of fake memories. Is it possible to have false memories "implanted"? I know there are drugs available now that can allow you to forget certain memories but I wanna know if it is possible to implant false ones? Oh and russia beat us to the fake vacations.

Good story, also an excellent movie (Total Recall). Not possible right now. I don't think our understanding of how memories are formed is anywhere near what would be necessary to form artificial memories.

At times we create our own "false memories" just to make up something other than the truth to make our lives a little more abnormal.
