Then should this subforum not be deleted? After all member opinions are irrelevant.

No, the host is the admin that owns the site. The moderators are the ones chosen by the host to help with the party.

Darn. I didn't mean for it to be loaded. I guess my inherent desire for good governance crept into my poll choices. Can't control my passions, I guess. Sorry. Just take it as it is "yes" or "no" and we'll have done. Fair shake?

YOU EARNESTLY DESIRE THE ELECTION OF MODERATORS. VOTE YES.

A good host always likes feedback and considering how many changes include the members, their opinion is hardly irrelevant.

But if the site was sold tomorrow, none of us could do much about it or choose the new owners.

But they still come from among the guests, and it's they that condition what happens here. If they're going to be chosen from among the guests, they should be responsive to the guests. This would be greater democracy.

TAP TAP...ANYONE THERE? COME ON, YOU LOVE VOTING FOR MODS. VOTE YES! YOU'LL FEEL BETTER ABOUT YOURSELF AND MORE PEOPLE WILL LIKE YOU

UHH...YOU HAVEN'T SEEN ANY SUBLIMINAL MESSAGES. THIS WAS NOT A HALF-ASSED TEST BY GEOFF TO SEE IF THAT WOULD ACTUALLY WORK. MAKE SURE TO VOTE YES. THERE...THINK THAT COVERS IT

So? The system will only be in place as long as Zox et all own the site. Things might change again but I dont see the problem. Nothing lasts forever.

Any way, mods are voted in any way - by the existing mods.

Yeah, and zox et al have the right to determine how they want to run the system.

IMO, its a bad idea, as mob rule has never worked at sciforums. Perhaps the admin will have different notions.

    Whatwhatwhat?

That's atrocious. The elite voted in by the elite? That's elitism, or some kind of ism. It's like reducing the electorate to just men, or people with lisps.

Seriously, wouldn't voting be a better option? Think how well respected all mods would be. The members would adore them.

No offense, but that isn't exactly an honest system.

But on what grounds? The members need a process that's transparent to them. We couldn't have a serious science site without making it representative, could we? New members would appreciate the openness and representation. They'd be more likely to stay. Maybe there could even be a tip jar!

VOTING FOR MODERATORS HELPS SAVE KITTENS

Whats dishonest about people who already have experience with moderation offering candidates that they think have the mentality and knowledge to moderate specific forums, in a way that conforms to what the admin wants the site to represent?

Its how it works in all industry and governance; if you think you select someone from scratch, you are highly deluded.
