Has there been any progress in recent years in developing a theory to unify relativity with quantum theory? I am under the impression that string theory and loop quantum gravity are both stuck.

Like you, I will hope to learn of progress. I am trying to increase my knowledge in areas like GUT and TOE (grand unification theory & theory of everything, respectively). Currently my understanding is Quantum Entanglement and SR are in conflict. Due to nothing faster than c. Although no information transfers faster than c in QE, some non usable particle correlations do transfer...apparently faster than c, or even instantly.

Do you know what other areas are in conflict? I am only up to date on this QE example?
    Thank you in advance!

A more fundamental problem (I believe) is trying to describe what goes on inside a black hole. GR has everything collapsing to a point, while quantum theory says that's impossible.
