    Two Poems for Seniors

    1.

    I always took pride in
    being able
    to walk
    a straight line.
    To put one foot
    then the other
    forward,
    with poise.

    For years
    my guarded secret,
    the act of walking.

    With the
    supple strength
    of the crow's wing
    in flight.

    2.

    In those days
    I didn't know
    what it was like
    to fall
    because I never
    counted
    the time
    between seconds
    before landing
    like I have learned
    to do
    of late.
