For some time now Trump has attacked the press. A few days ago Trump declared war on the free press. That's deeply disturbing or at least it should be. As Senator McCain said that's how dictators begin. Trump and his surrogates have said point plank, the press should only report what Trump wants them to report.

Somebody needs to tell Trump the USA isn't his beloved Mother Russia. Trump's war on the free press is just the latest right wing war on the free press. Right wing media have been fighting the "traditional media", i.e. mainstream media, for decades.

McCain is correct. This is how dictators begin. They begin by attacking and eventually controlling the press. So the question is what can to done about it? What should be done about it?

The problem is that the press truly does suck today. Today's news is dedicated to clickbait or "fake news" simply pumping out bullshit in order to get clicks to sell ads. Just over the last week WSJ attack on PieDiePie is a perfect example, they come out with complete bullshit hit piece that takes several off-color jokes out of context, they get a lot of attention, many other publication follow suit withing hours to get ride a wave of bullshit until the market is saturated and the new browsers are board.

Trump is taking advantage of this, he attacks the media (despite being and avid watcher) claims it is all lies, which many of us agree, and then claims he is the only one telling the truth, which somehow lots of people fall for. This kind of bait and switch of a truth or half-truth with a blatant lie, is the calling card of a huckster.

I sometimes have trouble with this free press/media idea, when individuals such as Rupert Murdoch and his family start acquiring such large outlets of ''news'' around the world.
Murdock's News corporation owns Fox news and in December 2016 made a bid to acquire all of SkyNews, he already owns 39% of SkyNews.

Murdock's bid for all of Sky news last December in UK is just too much.

Of course it maybe just me that thinks this is too much, but one as to wonder why politicians court such people.
