Today I found out that I have a sister!

I'm chocked.
My grandmother just called. A woman has sent a letter to my father where she explains that he has a daughter that is 23 years old. This woman had an affair with my father in 1979 at a home for recovering drug addicts ( my father is one of those) and apprently he is the father. Not according to the birth certificate though, on that is another mans name.
All this is new information to me that makes so many questions arise.
How does one go about to test if he really is the father?
This girl lives in Stockholm, the place I just moved away from. Who knows, we might even have met already?

I'm very happy, excited and worried at the same time. Why did she wait so long to tell him? Are there any elements of deception involved, and in that case what and why? Money?
I also feel threatened. I was the only child and only grandchild, but not anymore...
But I'm also thrilled by the thought of having a little sister.
I hope she is a nice person.

Who could have ever guessed that this was going to happen today?

(Q) beat me to it. DNA testing. Doesn't anyone watch non-fiction TV anymore, like Forensic Files? They just need some blood samples likely.

Though I suppose this is only your half sister though. But if she is nice maybe you'll have another friend in your life and someone to spend time with and share stories with.

 

How interesting. I found out I had a brother and a sister when I was 11. It was a bit shocking. I was happy but at the same time - not happy. I totally feel you Bebe. I love my sister now and wouldnt ask for anything more, but it was not so nice in the beginning. I wish you all the luck and wish you many happy days with you new sister. And think about how she must feel. Perhaps she just found out also, perhaps her mother was deceitful to her for many years. This has to be nerve wrecking for her also.

Thanks everyone, for the response. Yes, I guess a blood test should do it. But the thing is, she doesn't know yet, the mother said. She wanted to check with my father first. If he wants to have contact with her, then she will tell her. So she must still believe someone else is her father. That must be very hard for her to hear.

 

Invite her online! Then have her use the small letter format, in stark contrast to big and green! That'd be soooo trippy, beb.
