Time for mutual respect

Don't you think?

This place isn't fun anymore... For me and for many other members.

This won't be some pathetic tirade, just a few short questions and a plead...

I believe that we are here from the same reason. I believe that we have similar goal.

Then, why we don't act that way?

There is a lot of negativity in the air and bandwidth last few months. Personal conflicts and envy and small interests exchanged place with true reason why SciForums exists... Intelligent discussion.

We turned into bunch of whiners, sarcastic gits, haters and whatnot... Including myself. Why?
Are we possessed by some evil force?

How about starting respect each other? Immediately.
Even those members we don't like too much. Even those who hold different opinion and cause stress on our already stressed minds...

Use Ignore option if necessary... Don't read posts of members you dislike...
Don't post in their threads... Take a few days break of SciForums if needed...

But FFS, let's start respect each other.


SciForums is our house. Let's keep it in order and clean.

I respect about 98% of members here ( including you Plazma)
It probably wouldn't seem like that, I tend to take the piss.
I'm in awe of the minds around this place.

I hope there is some realisation that having a shot at a few folks is partly driven by respect ( For me, this is a massively cultural thing, we; Aussies, will denigrate in equal parts those we love and those we despise. It's up to you to show your skills of detection and awareness and lucidity to decipher which it is at any given moment).

Agree. We all have different thresholds in jokes, sarcasm, understanding certain issues...

Forum would be boring if there is no wit, a pinch of cynicism and sarcasm, a little bashing... But, there should be distinction between 'flame' raised in purpose to spice up the discussion and the situation we currently have.

I almost totally agree with you here ( and it's easy for me as a noob,and herein lies the crux, I haven't had time to establish any deep seated or ongoing rivalries) but I do find this place fun. I'm sure a few members could take some time out to good effect;.. come back refreshed and rejuvenated.

It really wouldn't hurt for a bit more of " I realise your point of view but disagree..."
or " You're right about that, but what if..." instead of the usual " I'm fuckin' right and you're fuckin' wrong dialogue.."

Having said that, I did start my day by baiting, cajoling and goading one of our precious members. Rest assured, I'll say several Hail Mary's, self flagellate relentlessly and have a good hard look at myself whilst endeavouring to pull up my socks and give myself an uppercut!

 

This is sound, sensible advice.

I agree but you have to admit sometimes it's like driving by a car crash.. you have to look.

 

It was fun for awhile until the personal attacks got way out of hand. Personal character assassinations are repulsive. Mods/members getting away with it makes me lose respect for both. My interest in this place is gone/
crushed....

I told you this would happen. If you had just shut up about the Christie thing or had posted pictures of yourself to shut everybody up, this wouldn't have happened.

Yes. Persnal attacks should be kept to a minimal. There really isn't any reason for such behaviour, unless of course you aren't quite all there.

 

i respect the people who i believe are willing to accept that another persons postision is as valid as their own for the people who just constatly act as if the people who disagree with them are morons i have nothing but scorn for
