So, I get an exams paper and I read the most retarded thing ever on it...

"this page is intentionally left blank" - errm no that if incorrect the page is not "blank" there is text on the page saying "this page is intentionally left blank" - why not write on the page previous to that "the next page is intentionally left blank" and then have a goddamn blank page.

It really annoys me as any one ever came across these not so blank pages?

Yes, this is to make sure that the printer did not pick up two sheets of paper by mistake and so miss printing on the back of the first paper and the front of the second paper.

Since exam papers are usually printed by secretaries or work study students who are unlikely to know if the exams have been incorrectly printed, it is a standard practice in some places to write something on each and every page. This way the secretary/student just needs to check if all sides are printed and not worry about whether some pages were not printed.

I 'm supposing, of course, that the pages were left blank so that the students had extra space to write.

Good Luck for your exams

That's a minor problem - I had an exam this year, where of the four questions there were supposed to be, only questions 1 and 3 were printed.

I'm guessing the pages were not labeled :(

I know what you're saying, but my point was the page is not blank if you write something on it is it?

Well you'd have to write something that would not be confused with an exam, right?

If you put numbers, and the rest is blank a new student or secretary may think something has gone wrong.

Don't worry, in the future, the printers will be so smart, they'll tell the secretary that the pages are supposed to be blank.

But if you get a blank side on an exam, wouldn't you wonder if something was missing? :)

How many years did it take before one supermarket chain finally changed the sign in the express lane from "Fifteen items or less" to "Fifteen items or fewer"?

The people who get the jobs composing "boilerplate" text are not the world's best writers.

"Fifteen items or less" to "Fifteen items or fewer"

why was/is the first one a problem?

Don't mind him.

Here let me try.

There are two kinds of nouns :

those which express a quality and cannot be counted

those which express a quantity and hence can be counted

e.g you can count rivers but not water.

when you describe a quality ( not countable you use much/less )

when you describe a quantity (countable you use many/few)

Therefor Many rivers but Much water
Or Few Rivers and Less Water.

So, since you can count the number of items in a grocery cart, you should use few and not less.

I don't know why don't they just print a nice -College University- on the back of it. then it will serve the same purpose, and wont be paradoxical.

Why do you care? Why does anyone care? Why the fuck am I wasting time responding?

NOTE: These questions are rhetorical.
